1. Read the case below and answer the questions.
Jamal decided to go to a university as he no longer could stand
the treatment from his boss. Even though, he knew he would be
much older than the other students in his class, he was still
determined to study and enrolled into OUM. At first, he was facing
problems with studying. He was not used to studying so much.
Whenever he tried to study, his children or wife would be asking
for his attention on a question or something to discuss. Very
often, he would not finish his assignments. He prefers to present
his assignment in hand-written form, as he is not too confident in
using the Microsoft Word. He did not do well on the first
assignment and he realised that the other students knew much
more of the course material than he did. He realised he would not
succeed if he were to continue studying the way he did, so he
changed his methods. He started studying during his work breaks
and lunch hour. He could concentrate better and then he could
still attend to family matters in the evenings. He also participated
actively in the discussions in the online discussion forum and
practiced using Microsoft Word. Using these methods, Jamals
marks were getting better.

Jamal telah memutuskan untuk melanjutkan pelajaran di universiti
kerana beliau tidak dapat bertahan lagi dengan layanan ketuanya.
Walaupun, beliau tahu umurnya lebih tua daripada pelajar lain di
dalam kelas, beliau masih berazam untuk belajar dan telah
mendaftarkan diri dengan OUM. Pada mulanya, beliau
menghadapi masalah pembelajaran. Beliau tidak biasa dengan
pembelajaran yang begitu banyak. Apabila sahaja beliau cuba
belajar, anak-anaknya dan isterinya akan meminta perhatiannya
dengan menanyakan sesuatu atau membincangkan sesuatu hal.
Beliau kerap tidak dapat menghabiskan tugasannya. Beliau lebih
suka menyiapkan tugasannya dengan cara menulis tangan,
kerana beliau tidak begitu yakin menggunakan Microsoft Word.
Beliau tidak membuat tugasan pertamanya dengan baik dan
mendapat tahu bahawa pelajar-pelajar lain lebih banyak
mengetahui tentang bahan kursus daripada dirinya. Beliau
menyedari bahawa beliau tidak akan berjaya sekiranya beliau
meneruskan cara pembelajarannya seperti yang biasa
dilakukannya. Oleh itu beliau telah menukar cara
pembelajarannya. Beliau mula belajar pada waktu rehat kerja dan
pada waktu makan tengahari. Beliau dapat menumpukan
perhatian dengan lebih baik dan mendapati bahawa beliau masih
dapat memberi perhatian kepada hal-hal keluarga pada waktu
malam. Beliau juga turut mengambil bahagian secara aktif di
dalam perbincangan forum atas talian dan berlatih
menggunakan Microsoft Word. Dengan menggunakan
pendekatan tersebut, markah Jamal bertambah baik.

2. Read the following passage and answer the questions.

Introduction: the growth in portion sizes
Obesity is a rapidly growing, world-wide public health problem. In
recent decades, there has been a significant increase in the
prevalence of obesity. The World Health Organization estimates
that globally there are over 1 billion adults and 17 million children
who are overweight or obese (World Health Organization, 2004).
It is unlikely that our biology could have changed in several
decades, so other explanations for this surge in obesity rates
must be found. One possible reason for the increase is that the
environment in Westernized societies has altered, so that over
consumption of energy has become easier. At the same time,
opportunities for physical activity have declined. Thus, it is
increasingly difficult for individuals to match energy intake to
energy output in order to maintain a healthy body weight. Some of
the changes in the eating environment that encourage overeating
are the increasing availability of inexpensive high-energy-dense
(kJ/ g) foods, the wide variety of palatable foods, the increasing
frequency of meals consumed outside of the home, and the rise in
portion sizes. While all of these changes may stimulate excess
intake, we will present data suggesting that large portion sizes,
particularly of energy-dense foods, are contributing to the
epidemic of obesity, and we will present constructive measures
that could help to improve the eating environment.

5. The following information was found in a website.


Motivation at Workplace
Since motivation influences productivity, supervisors need to
understand what motivates employees to reach peak
performance. It is not an easy task to increase employee
motivation because employees respond in different ways to their
jobs and their organisation's practices. Motivation is the set of
processes that moves a person toward a goal. Thus, motivated
behaviors are voluntary choices controlled by the individual
employee. The supervisor (motivator) wants to influence the
factors that motivate employees to higher levels of productivity.

Factors that affect work motivation include individual differences,
job characteristics, and organisational practices. Individual
differences are the personal needs, values, and attitudes,
interests and abilities that people bring to their jobs. Job
characteristics are the aspects of the position that determine its
limitations and challenges. Organisational practices are the rules,
human resources policies, managerial practices, and rewards
systems of an organisation. Supervisors must consider how these
factors interact to affect employee job performance
