Performance Task Blueprint


What understandings will be assessed through this task? Student understanding of Viet Cong and North Vietnamese strategies and their use of the Ho Chi Ming trail will be assessed in this performance task. What goals will be assessed through this task? Students will be assessed on their understandings of the NVA strategies by providing ideas for strategies that could counter them in a military brief. Describe the authentic performance task that will be used to assess the understandings and/or goals listed above: The Joint Chiefs of Staff are holding a meeting and want you to prepare a military brief that discusses the strategies being used by the NVA and VC. They have requested that you give great detail about the strategies and why they are being effective. Also, they would like you to detail how the Ho Chi Minh trail is being used by the NVA and VC. Make sure to discuss its importance to the NVA and if there are any ways to prevent the NVA and VC from using it. Next, The Joint Chiefs will also be discussing new strategies to employ to counter the ones being used by the NVA and VC. You will need to detail alternate strategies that can counter the North Vietnamese and Viet Cong strategy. Tasks may include student products, student performances, or both. Describe all below:

Describe student products that will be used to provide evidence of the desired understandings and student proficiency on the stated criteria: o Student briefs will describe strategies that could have been used in Vietnam that would allowed the United States to fare better in the war. Describe student performances that will be used to provide evidence of the desired understandings and student proficiency on the stated criteria: o The military brief will provide evidence of student understanding by detailing the strategies used and possible strategies that could have countered them.

Describe the criteria you will use to determine students level of understanding (these will be sta ted and/or implied in the standards, goals, and understandings of the unit) : The students level of understanding will be determined by their ability to discuss the strategies used by the NVA and VC, counter strategies to use against them, and the importance of the Ho Chi Minh trail and how it was used in the NVA and VC strategy. Attach a rubric(s) that will be used to evaluate this performance task. Be sure the rubric(s) address all of the criteria listed above.
