The Black Keys Tighten Up Video Analysis I have decided to do my first music video analysis on the video for

r The Black Keys song Tighten Up. This song was the first single from the bands sixth album Brothers. This music video is a narrative about the two band members sons fighting with each other to impress a young girl. When they have broken up their sons fight the two band members then start fighting with each other to impress the young girls mother. This creates the idea of like father, like son as the boy and his dad act in exactly the same way in the video. This is emphasised even more by the fact that Dan Auerbach and his son have the same haircut and Patrick Carney and his son have the same glasses. Also, Patrick gives Dan a donut which he gets from his jacket pocket and his son gives the girl a donut he gets from his shirt pocket. This music video shows a strong representation of single parents and the effects they have on their child. Culturally single parents are stereotyped as lonely and irresponsible. The two single fathers can be said to be lonely because they try to get with the only woman in the video. They can also be said to be irresponsible as they fight in public which is not a good example to set for their children. It is also stereotypically viewed that children in a household with one parent grow up to be similar to that parent because they only have one person around to acting as a role model instead of two. This can also be seen in the video as the two boys are very similar to each of their fathers as the young girl is very similar to her mother. Therefore, you can see that the two single fathers and the single mother are very strong stereotypes of the typical single parent. When the girls are shown in the video it is a low angle shot to emphasize how beautiful they are in the eyes of the boys. It creates the feeling that their desires are just out of reach. The video has a very significant use of the Propp theory. The single mother is very flirty towards the two men and acts as a prize for them to win. The two men, in their own eyes, act as the hero who is driven to get the prize. However, they both see each other as a villain blocking their path to glory and who is trying to steal their prize. That fact that the artists appears in the music video instead of actors shows that they believed the audience would have been able to relate to the characters and story more if they appeared in it themselves.
