ROUTING

Routing Process :The Process of transferring or forwarding packets one network to another network is called Routing Types of Routers : Hardware Routers Software Routers. Router :- It is a interface between two different Network using a common Network layer protocol. Hardware Routers :- A Device that performs Routing as a dedicated function. It is secured, because Virus cannot infect Hardware Router ( it is made-up of .bin files) Software Routers :- A Small program which works like a Router. It is less secured. Because Virus can infect the Software Routers. Main Components of Routing Routing Interface :- It is a interface over which IP Packets are forwarded. o There are two types of Routing Interface LAN Interface Demand Dial Interface Routing Protocol :- Is a set of Rule that use to determine the shortest path to reach the Destination Routed Protocol :- The Protocol is responsible for forwarding a packets using a path determine by routing protocol. Types of Routing Protocol :o RIP :- Routing Information Protocol o OSPF :- Open Short Path First Static Routing :- Routing Table which is maintained by administrator manually. It is basically designed for small network. It is secured method. Routing Table :- It is a collection of entries or Routes that contain information about the location of the network IOs in the Internet Work. Contents of Routing Table :-

o Network Destination :- It is the end point of the Network. It is indicate the class of destination network o Gateway :- It is an entry point of the neighbor Router. o Interface :- It is use to forward the packets o Metric :- It is indicate number of Routers cross to reach the destination. Configuring steps o Take 2 computers with 2 NIC cards o Assign the IP as per the requirement o Server manager roles add roles NPS select only routing and remote access next install close. o Start Programs Administrative Tools Routing & Remote access o R/C on Server Enable Routing & Remote Access Next o Select Custom Configuration Next o LAN Routing Finish Yes Dynamic Routing :-Routing Table can be Generated with the help of Routing Table Automatically In Routing & Remote Access R/C General New Routing Protocol Select RIP or OSPF OK R/C on Protocol New Interface OK Same again R/C on Protocol New Interface Select & OK Ping after 1 minute.
