Week 1, Day 1

Indiscriminate slaughter of the buffalo has brought many evils in its train. 3. eminent- kilala o sikat Ex. Even eminent galilaean rabbis were not free of criticism. 4. steeped- umaapaw o binabad Ex. Philippines is steeped in legends and history 5. replete- puno o sagana Ex. Online articles are often replete with cutting-edge information on just about every topic. 6. to eat humble pie- pag-amin at paghingi ng paumanhin sa pagkatalo o pagkakamali Ex. When they showed absolute proof of my error, I was forced to eat humble pie.

Week 1, Day 2
1. abound- masagana Ex. Yellow wagtail still abound on the beach reserve with 50 counted on a short stretch. 2. technology- teknolohiya Ex. The novelty of new technology holds the interest of visitors. 3. prognosticate- hulaan Ex. When he got it home it wouldn't work and he realized that he had bought a pig in a poke.

Week 1, Day 3
1. paradox- kabalintunaan Ex. There is an apparent paradox in the leg ulcer quality of life literature. 2. realm- kaharian Ex. In return they provided him with ship service to defend the realm. 3. annals- mga salaysay Ex. Archeologists have found sennacherib's royal annals of the campaign. 4. compound- timplahin o dagdagan Ex. Week 1, Day 4
1. badger- pagmalupitan Ex. The cage, laced with peanuts, was intended to snare any badger tempted by the easy meal. 2. implore- manikluhod Ex. Implore anyone who's looking for that level of depth you only find with a genius like this. 3. drudgery- mahirap na gawain Ex. Your training must not become drudgery or a chore that has to be done. 4. interminable- walang patid o tila walang tigil Ex. The descent was easier but the last lap along the forest path seemed interminable! 5. perceive- maunawaan Ex. Perceive what one wants to see can be traced to several factors. 6. to pour oil on troubled waters- para gawing kalmado ang isang tao Ex. The twins are quarreling so I'd best go pour oil on troubled waters.

Week 2, Day 1
1. laconic- matipid magsalita Ex. A full and suitably laconic report of events will follow in march. 2. throng- kakapalan ng tao Ex. Then a handsome young couple emerged to a roar of delight from the assembled throng. 3. intrepid- napakatapang Ex. Intrepid duo even took their trainers to tenerife on a recent family holiday! 4. accost- magsimulang magsalita Ex. The writer immediately accosted the seamen about the state of the ship. 5. reticent- walang imik Ex. He is initially reticent, unsure of the motives for my questions. 6. the sword of Damocles- anumang napipintong panganib Ex. The likelihood of lay-offs has been a sword of Damocles over the department for months.

Week 2, Day 2
1. furtive- palihim o patago Ex. He is initially reticent, unsure of the motives for my questions. 2. felon- mamamatay-tao o criminal Ex. Trying to provoke a large, dangerous-looking felon from across the room is not funny. 3. plethora- kalabisan Ex. Plethora of new criminal justice legislation are very well known. 4. hapless- sawing-palad o walang suwerte Ex. Hapless soul will spend fruitless hours attempting to work it out. 5. irate- nagagalit Ex. Irate citizens take their claims. 6. Pyrrhic victory- nanalo sa labanan ngunit mas mabigat ang mga pagkatalo Ex. The campaign was so divisive that even though he won the election it was a Pyrrhic victory.

Week 2, Day 3
1. pretext- palusot o alibi Ex. Pretext calls to criminal elements by using caller id spoofing. 2. fabricate- umimbento ng kwento o magsinungaling Ex. Muhammad simply fabricated the accusation against them. 3. adroit- mahusay o dalubhasa Ex. Proverbs aims to show a person how to become adroit at the greatest skill of all, the skill of living. 4. gesticulate- maliksing paggalaw ng braso at kamay Ex. Gesticulate is doing his best impression of David Brent's infamous dance in the office. 5. vigilant- mapagbantay o listo Ex. Those with HIV are advised to be particularly vigilant. 6. a wet blanket- taong sumisira ng kasiyahan Ex. Don't be such a wet blanketthe carnival will be fun!

Week 2, Day 4
1. avid- masugid Ex. Because of that book I am a very avid reader. 2. cajole- suyuin o utuin Ex. Outside agencies can and should advise and even cajole, but i don't think coercion works. 3. rudimentary- mababang antas Ex. However, our understanding of the climate system remains rudimentary. 4. enhance- dagdagan Ex. Week 3, Day 1

When the play's star broke her leg, her understudy wept crocodile tears.

Week 3, Day 2

Solar systems do not jostle each other in space. 3. dupe- taong madaling maloko o malinlang Ex. The reality was that I was only an innocent dupe. 4. incipient- nagsisimula pa lamang Ex. Even incipient heart failure is a strong predictor of adverse outcome. 5. inadvertent- nagsisimula pa lamang Ex. Inadvertent error on my part frankly leaves me feeling sick. 6. to carry the day- makuha ang aprobasyon ng karamihan Ex. At auctions the wealthiest bidders usually carry the day.

Week 3, Day 3
1. ominous- nagbabanta Ex. The music seemed more ominous to me than the ominous scenes in the film. 2. tremulous- nangangatog Ex. Tremulous voice could scarcely be heard through the moaning of the wind amid the tombs. 3. repudiate- itatwa o itakwil Ex. Repudiate the idea that everyone has a logical right to think whatever they happen to think. 4. cessation- paghinto Ex. It was a small price to pay for the abrupt cessation of that barbarous war. 5. bristle- mangalisag Ex. Bristle up with the intensity of his emotion. 6. Skid Row- may masamang reputasyon sa ibang bayan Ex. That part of town is our skid row.

Week 3, Day 4
1. euphemism- pagsasabi ng isang bagay na hindi direkta Ex. The phrase has become a euphemism for the erosion of workers ' basic rights. 2. mundane- pandaigdig Ex. Mundane reality can be a shock to the system. 3. incongruous- hindi angkop Ex. There had seemed something slightly incongruous about these from the start. 4. condolence- pakikiramay Ex. Our sincere condolences go out to the members of the deceased's family. 5. stipulate- itakda o magtadhana Ex. Ministers have specifically stipulated that this would be unacceptable. 6. to go up in smoke- pagtuunan ng oras ang isang bagay nugit walang resulta Ex. Computers do not go up in smoke when they are done working for you.

Week 4, Day 1
1. alacrity- kasiglahan Ex. Will the same alacrity apply to the entertainment center? 2. disdain- paniniphayo Ex. Disdain what is transient, which is only in the present. 3. belligerent- mapanlaban Ex. The principle therein involved applies to guerrillas who are not lawful belligerents. 4. intimidate- manakot Ex.Intimidate voters to stay at home. 5. feint- pagpapakunwari Ex. Feint actions progress from simple ones to complicated ones. 6. to throw down the gauntlet- hamunin ang isang tao Ex. The senator threw down the gauntlet on the abortion issue.

Week 4, Day 2
1. pugnacious- palaaway Ex. Pugnacious style would suit the job. 2. promulgate- magproklama o magpahayag Ex. Promulgate a resolution establishing this chair. 3. brash- pangahas o walang pakundangan Ex. It has bags of attack and precision to the notes, and yet it's not brash or harsh. 4. scoff- kutyain Ex. Scoff all they want to, but you now know. 5. belittle- maliitin Ex. We do not belittle or mock the campaigning of any group. 6. feeling no pain- lasing Ex. After six beers he was feeling no pain.

Week 4, Day 3
1. tangible- konkreto Ex. The presence of god becomes more tangible during the day. 2. laceration- sugat o pagmumunglay Ex. The driver, aged 25, suffered serious facial lacerations. 3. castigate- parusahan Ex. Suffice to say that a soap star can be publicly castigated for speaking lines she only read. 4. sordid- nakakarimarim o marumi Ex. It was too ugly, too sordid, too fearful to be heroic. 5. octogenarian- oktohenaryo o taong nasa walumpung taong gulang Ex. We have members of all ages including active octogenarians. 6. Hobsons choice- walang pagkakataong pumili Ex. My dad said if I wanted the car I could have it tonight or not at allthat's Hobson's choice.

Week 4, Day 4
1. solace- aliw Ex. William Cowper found great solace in these poems during his periods of depression. 2. aspirant- kandidato o naghahangad Ex. Aspirants for municipal honors were more numerous then than now. 3. dregs- panapon o latak Ex. He will consume the cup to the bitter dregs. 4. frenzy- diliryo o siklab ng galit Ex. They were loud and sent the body buzzing into a mad frenzy. 5. scurrilous- magaspang o alipusta; bastos Ex. Scurrilous rumors that he was out window shopping have yet to be confirmed. 6. to rule the roost- maging pinuno Ex. In our division the chairman's son rules the roost.

Week 5, Day 1
1. rampant- laganap o kalat Ex. Corruption is also rampant - almost everyone can be corrupt. 2. inane- hangal o walang kabuluhan Ex. It all looks so inane to me, so false, not of any merit whatsoever. 3. ethics- etika o tuntunin ng moralidad Ex. Their general comments are very apt as well for buddhist health care ethics. 4. concur- sumang-ayon Ex. These are fine words with which we may readily concur. 5. clandestine- lihim Ex. Our actions, although often clandestine, will have lasting effect on all countries. 6. stock in trade- kinakailangan sa iang propesyon Ex. The strange thing is that a man whose stock in trade is bitterness should successfully embody the spirit of good fellowship.

Week 5, Day 2
1. flagrant- garapal Ex. This is a particularly flagrant way to illegally distribute millions of copyrighted works over the internet. 2. admonish- pagsabihan o magpaalala Ex. He also admonished them to never let suffering become an idol. 3. duress- pamimilit Ex. Under economic duress, occupational distinctions between the two have tended to disappear. 4. culprit- may kasalanan o salarin Ex. At the end of each scenario, they must identify the culprit. 5. inexorable- matatag o hindi matinag Ex. The seemingly inexorable rise in energy prices has been brought into sharp public focus. 6. to take down a peg- pahiyain o manghamak Ex. Ali was too proud. Somebody had to take him down a peg.

Week 5, Day 3
1. egregious- kapansin-pansin o napakalaki Ex. This mistaken expectation was so egregious as to beg for some sort of explanation. 2. distraught- naguguluhan o nababagabag Ex. When he fails your perception of him, you begin to feel distraught. 3. duplicity- pandaraya Ex. Why is so much of the media blinded by his obvious duplicity? 4. acrimonious- masakit o matulis Ex. It's a shame that the split has been so acrimonious. 5. paucity- pagkasalat Ex. There was also a general paucity of trained operatives. 6. to pass the buck- umiwas sa pananagutan o responsibilidad Ex. She's always passing the buck to her staff; it's time she accepted the blame herself.

Week 5, Day 4
1. elicit- maglabas ng saloobin Ex. The threat has also elicited a sharp response from some Europeans. 2. pernicious- mapaminsala Ex. Pernicious myths have started to become a little too popular. 3. tolerate- payagan Ex. The power thirsty king Philippe Le Bel could no longer tolerate their power. 4. construe- pakahuluganan Ex. It is appropriate to narrowly construe a provision which sets the limits of criminal liability. 5. impunity- buong laya Ex. Pli says " A physician can commit murder with complete impunity " . 6. to lionize a person- pakaibigin o sambahin Ex. The man we now lionize as a monetary magician began sensibly.
