Germany vs.

Sweden 5-3

Last tuesday 15th of October the world cup qualifiers took place again in Sweden, facing Germany. This 5-3 game started with action that promised an exciting game. Swedenattacked first, within 6 minutes they took the lead with a goal from Tobias Hysen which left in evidence the German defence deficiency. "Jerome Boateng was caught out of position by a pass in the path of Hysen, who slotted the ball through the legs of Manuel Neuer"(1). The game continued the same, with a Germany that had to push to find the equaliser but found it hard with the strategy which they were playing with. "The hosts caught the Germandefence out again with Kacaniklic beating the offside trap and placing the ball under Neuer's left arm to make it two in the 42nd minute"(2). As the half-time drew closer, Sweden were on course to become the first nation, since England in 2001, to beat Germany in a World Cup qualifier but Arsenal's Mesut Ozil, celebrating his 25th birthday, gave Germany a gasp of breath when he converted a very smart shot in a goal a minute before half-time, minute 44. The second half started with the turnaround of Mario Gotze when the ball found him in position to take an elegant shot and locate the ball in the top corner. As Germany found possession and control of the game, Andre Shrrle, who currently plays for Chelsea FC, finally found the end of the net, twice, after intercepting the sloppy game of the Swedish defence. The home crowd were silenced with disappointment and bitterness, Sweden tried to reduce errors and Hysen found his second as volleyed the ball to the second post. This gave the home crowd hope and illusion, a slight chance of a equaliser could have set the road to Sweden towards the World Cup, but was quickly shut off again by Shrrle who completed his hat-trick. "With a curled shot to the top corner from the edge of the penalty area"(3), Germany finished with 28 points and could have had a perfect record had they not squandered a four-goal lead to draw with Sweden 44 last year in Berlin, Sweden took second place with 20 points, three more than Austria in third."It was fireworks aplenty to see off another successful World Cup campaign for Germany as they came from behind to beat Sweden"(4).
