Freda: “Anton (Tony) had a chance to audition with his accordion with the Lawrence Welk
Orchestra, but he decided against it. Instead he moved to the Twin Cities and worked at
maintenance at 3M. He had been assigned to clean a specific floor during the night shift.
About three hours later, Tony asked his boss what else he could do. When they inspected his
work, Anton’s boss could not believe how clean it was. His supervisor at 3M was so impressed
with his strong work ethic that he fixed a place for Anton over his garage and let him stay there
rent free.”
