The Journey Begins.

On Monday oct 21, 2013 the students of PGDM 1st and final year went for industry exposure .We reached the Manesar plant in Gurgaon with our honourable faculty Mr. MANOJ VASHIST and Miss. NAMRATA. We reached by 1 pm and there Onassis members welcome us with refreshment. We were divided into 2 groups of 24 people so as to have individual attention. After that one group headed to the Conference room and were briefed about the Company by a presentation which covered company profile, their vision, mission, how they manufacture by Mr. Sushil Walia and the entire group followed by the Q & A Session which lasted for an hour. And the other group for plant visit in which we have gone through the process of product. The honors were done none other than Mr. Rohit Bhatia (Managing Director) of the Company. Accompanying him Mr. Sushil Walia (Head-Commercial). With such dignitaries explaining us the world of Onassis, we were just as grateful. This plant mainly deals in manufacturing of steerings gear assembly and its child parts. The parts are exported to major OEMs worldwide like UK, USA, Poland, Hungary, Germany, Russia and Japan. After being briefed through the introduction plant, we were about to explore the Indias most Prestigious Companies.

Hands on approach to Production

Each Group was taken separately and explained functioning of the plant. A lot of theory is learnt is class regarding how the manufacturing units focus on Total Productivity, Total Quality, Zero Defect, etcbut by far this was the first hands on experience on how does a Manufacturing unit or plant works. Here we are explained about how the assembly line manufacturing process works.

We are introduced to how the stations work in co-ordination to get optimum results. The students are taken through a complete channel of stations on the assembly station and the supervisor explaining each of this complicated process. There was a standard room and metallurgical lab in which all the products checked out. After that we goes to the assembled parts where rod tightening machine, final component assembling machines , visual inspection bench and DAQ System.

The units where the final assembled steerings are manufactured in assembly lines follow Total Quality Management (TQM) and Total Productivity Management (TPM). Every sub-unit contributes to the production. All these techniques add value to the production. Indeed there is no surprise they improve their quality and reduce time with ever unit of production of steering gear assembly. After the visit of a company we had lunch which was purely simple food provided by them. After that MD of ONASSIS Rohit Bhatia share his valuable time, knowledge, experience and guide us how to success in corporate then we all move towards our bus. We also clicked the group photographs.
