American Modernism 7.

High modernism is often designated as productions that represent the transformation of traditional society under the pressures of mondernity, thus breaking down traditional mnodels of literary forms. Many high modernists texts interpret modernity as an experience of loss and ruin. These works are characterized by their constructions out of fragments or myth, history, experience or perception, previous artistic works. Those aesthetic structures that had organized society no longer seem viable in the modern world. It was a selfconsciously international movement and many of its leading American exponents lived as permanent expatriates in Europe and spent significant periods of time abroad. These modernists calimed to find climates more hospitable to artistic achievement and high culture in Europe.
