Run, February 21st, 2014 Dear Shannon, On behalf of the Committee of the 19th Terry Fox Run Abu Dhabi, we would like to invite you and your school to participate in this annual event which will take place on the Corniche on Friday, February 21st, 2014. This run is dedicated to cancer research and every year, thousands of children and students participate with pride and enthusiasm in the Terry Fox run and fundraising. Terry Fox's initial Marathon of Hope in 1980 captured the hearts of Canadians and since that time has grown into an annual international event world-wide. Currently, more than 9,000 Terry Fox Runs are held every year. His Excellency Sheikh Sultan bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, Advisor to His Highness the President, has been our Patron since the first Terry Fox Run Abu Dhabi held in 1995. His Excellency's generous endorsement and support has helped each of the Terry Fox Runs in Abu Dhabi to enjoy tremendous success over the years. Each year has seen increases in both the number of participants and the total funds raised. Naturally, we always obtain permission for the Terry Fox Run Abu Dhabi from the authorities and have greatly appreciated the assistance provided annually by the Abu Dhabi Police Department. The Terry Fox Run Abu Dhabi/Walk is not a race. The reward is in simply participating. We have participants of all ages, from newborns to those well into their 70s and beyond. Last February, approximately 18,000 persons participated in the Run/Walk and every dirham raised over AED 750,000 was allocated directly into innovative, carefully vetted and world-class cancer research projects in the UAE. We are confident that the 19th Terry Fox Run Abu Dhabi on Friday, February 21st, 2014 will be another record-breaking event. We can only do this with your support which is greatly appreciated. We hope you will be inspired and motivated to take part in this year's event. We look forward to hearing from you and seeing many more participants joining us in the collective search for a cure for any or all of the 200+ forms of cancer.
