The Original Timber to preview the 2014 World Cup

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 20, 2013 Portland, OR U.S. soccer fans delighted in a successful 2013, as the United States Mens National Team (USMNT) won the prestigious CONCACAF Gold Cup and held their own against some of the best national teams in the world. With the FIFA World Cup mere months away, all eyes are on the USMNT as they set out to prove that 2013s success was no fluke. Portland Timbers community ambassador Michael Mick Hoban will preview the USMNTs FIFA World Cup draw at U.S. Soccer vs. Group of Death, presented by American Outlaws Portland, on Feb. 19 at the Alberta Rose Theater. Hoban will preview the USMNTs opponents, discuss the tactics theyll need to advance, and talk about what goes into preparing for the FIFA World Cup. Its an honor for Mick to join us, said American Outlaws Portland President Robert W. Cross. With a career spanning two continents, he has a keen understanding of the beautiful game and much passion for the sport. In 2000, Hoban co-founded Soccer Solutions and was soon joined in the venture by USMNT Head Coach Jrgen Klinsmann. Hoban remains friends with Klinsmann today and will draw on his conversations with the coach to discuss the USMNTs preparation and strategy. A question-and-answer session will follow the discussion. Since then, the group has swelled to more than 200 members and routinely holds viewing parties and other events throughout Portland while raising funds for local organizations. About Mick Hoban Michael Mick Hoban played soccer in Europe and North America during the 1970s and was the first player signed by the North American Soccer Leagues Portland Timbers in 1975. After retiring in 1978, Hoban became Nike's first-ever employee dedicated to growing the company's soccer profile. He spent the years since working in and around soccer and, in 2000, co-founded Soccer Solutions, a sports marketing firm. He currently volunteers for nonprofit organizations and is a community ambassador for the Timbers.
