Cable Pulling & Jetting

Cable Pulling

Cable Pulling is the traditional method of pulling cables through previously installed cable ducts or conduit using a pull line. Successful pulling requires cables to be pulled at the straightest angles possible. The fewer bends that the cable needs to be pulled through the better. A generous amount of Cable Pulling Lubricant should also be used during the entire process to decrease friction and avoid damaging the cable. Clear communication between installation team members is also essential when pulling cable.

Cable Jetting

Cable Jetting is a technique used to install cables in ducts, as an alternative to cable pulling. It involves blowing a cable through a duct while simultaneously pushing the cable mechanically into the duct. This method is primarily used for installing fiber optic cable. During the cable jetting process, a high volume of compressed air is injected into the duct, which allows the cable to float inside the duct creating less friction. Special lubricants are also commonly used to offset friction. The cable is fed into the duct being carried along by a birdie attached to the front of the cable. Both pushing and adding lubricants helps to increase the maximum jetting distance. The advantages of cable jetting over cable pulling include:

Longer installation distances possible Bends in duct dont hinder jetting process Less force is exerted on the cable No need to install a winch rope Equipment only needed at one end of route Underground Piercing experts will thoroughly explore your needs and options before recommending the most efficient, cost-effective method for properly completing your project.
