The Chancellor's Undergraduate Scholarships
The hallmark of quality in all endeavors including academics is human attainment. Consequently, the Chancellors
Undergraduate Scholarships seek to foster high attainment for exceptionally talented and motivated students in all
academic disciplines.
The Chancellor's Scholarships are the most prestigious academic awards entering freshmen may receive at the
University of Pittsburgh. They are granted on the basis of merit criteria without regard to financial need, and they are
tenable for eight terms (four years). They cover full tuition, a standard room and board allowance based on double
occupancy and an average meal plan, and mandatory fees.
Chancellor's Scholars have diverse profiles based on individual qualities that reflect a variety of backgrounds,
educational objectives, and perspectives. Although the foremost criteria are academic, nonacademic factors also are
important in the deliberations of the Committee of Selection. Considerations of both intellect and character play a role
as the University seeks individuals who will make a difference in their chosen endeavors. In general, the Committee
seeks a combination of outstanding academic ability, intellectual scope, curiosity, motivation, and generosity of spirit.
Evidence of singular attainment in any arena also is noteworthy, as is evidence of leadership initiative.
