The Quarter Million Second QuizOFFICIAL RULES Description The Quarter Million Second Quiz is a live game show

based off of the NBC game show Million Second Quiz. The game is a trivia contest that lasts for 250,000 seconds or 2 days, 21 hours, 26 minutes and 40 seconds. At any given time, one contestant is sitting in the "Money Chair" and accumulating money at the rate of $.01 per second, while defending his/her position against a series of challengers in head-tohead quiz bouts. Contestants in the chair earn money until they are defeated by a challenger, who replaces the occupant of the chair. Only the four contestants with the highest total winnings get to keep their money once the quarter million seconds are up. The quarter million second countdown will begin at 8:00pm EST on Friday, February 28 and will take place inside the academic building on the PTI campus. The game will be played around the clock with the top four contestants that have accumulated the most money in trivia bouts living in "Winners' Row," an area of living quarters set up next to the games set. They are at risk of being displaced if someone else out-scores them. All other defeated contestants, including those displaced from Winners' Row by being out-scored, may try out again for a chance to win their way back into the Money Chair. How to register to play Interested contestants can arrive to the game set at any time during the quarter million second countdown including the hour before the countdown begins. Only current PTI students (with proper ID), current faculty and staff, or PTI student alumni (graduating 2010 or later, pending verification) are eligible to participate. Contestants will play on a first come, first serve basis with the exception of the Line Jumper. (See Line Jumper below.) Upon arrival to the game set, potential contestants will be given a ticket which holds their spot in line. Contestants are expected to be ready when its their turn to participate. Failure to be ready when called will result in the contestants removal from the line. Trivia Bouts All trivia bouts in the game will be head-to-head, multiple choice question bouts that will last for 500 seconds (8 minutes, 20 seconds). The Challenger will stand and the Money Chair occupant will sit. Each contestant will be shown and read the same question and the same four possible options. After the D option has been read, a five second countdown will be activated on screen. During this five seconds, each contestant will lock in their answer. Failure to lock in an answer before the five seconds expires will result in the answer being considered incorrect. Once an answered is locked in, it cannot be changed. All correct answers are worth one point each. Players may not stop a bout to contest the validity of a question or an answer. At the end of the 500 seconds, whichever contestant earned the most points will win the bout and will either take over or keep the Money Chair. If the contestants are tied after 500 seconds, one more question will be played. Both contestants will be equipped with a buzzer to buzz in. After the D answer has been read to the tie breaker question, the first contestant to buzz in will be given the opportunity to answer. If the player that buzzed in answers correctly, they will win the bout. If the player that buzzed in answers incorrectly, their opponent will automatically win the bout.

The Money Chair Only contestants that occupy the Money Chair earn $0.01 per second during the game. There will be scheduled end of the hour breaks of approximately eleven minutes during which the Money Chair occupant will be allowed to use the restroom, eat or rest. No eating will be allowed in the Money Chair and only approved drinks will be allowed in the chair. Between bouts, there will be a five-minute break where the occupant will be allowed to stand and stretch. However, moving away from the Money Chair may stop the money meter. If a contestant is not in the Money Chair when a bout is ready to begin, that player will be disqualified. Breaks 1. Five minutes between bouts, contestants may stand and stretch but may not leave Money Chair area, Money Meter continues to run during this break. 2. Eleven minutes at the end of each hour, contestants may stand, use restroom, and eat, Money Meter will not run during this break 3. One emergency restroom break that can be used during the five minute break between bouts, may only be used once under a true emergency Winners Row The top four players that have earned the most money in the game at any given time will stay in Winners Row, a living area next to the game. While in Winners Row, occupants will be given food and drink and will have access to the internet. Winners Row occupants must stay in the living area for the duration of their time in the game with the exception of a one hour break every 12 hours. During this hour, Winners Row occupants will be permitted to go to their home, dorm, or apartment and shower, gather clothes or other needs and relax. Failure of Winners Row occupants to return after one hour will result in that player forfeiting their spot on Winners Row. Winners Row occupants will also be granted permission to leave under an emergency, to be determined by the producers of the game. Should a Winners Row occupant decided to leave the game, that player will be disqualified and the remaining occupants will move up in position on the leaderboard if applicable. The newest Winners Row occupant will be determined the current Money Chair occupant once that player is defeated. Live Shows At 200,000, 150,000, 100,000, 50,000 and 3,000 seconds (or approximately every 13 hours) a live show will take place. There will be three bouts played during these shows. The first will be a standard, headto-head bout between the current Money Chair occupant and the next player in line to play. The second bout will be between the winner of the first bout and the Line Jumper (see below). The third bout will be a Winners Defense bout between the winner of the second bout and either the Power Player (see below) or a designee of the Power Player in a winner-take-all bout.

Line Jumper The Line Jumper is a future contestant that will be given the opportunity to jump the line and participate during one of the live shows that will take place every 50,000 seconds (or roughly 13 hours). The Line Jumper will be randomly selected from the list of future contestants that are in the current line to play the game and will have a better opportunity to face a Winners Row participant to earn more money. Power Player/Power Player Period With 10,000 seconds before a live show (at 210,000, 160,000, 110,000, 60,000, and 13,000 seconds), a Power Player Period will take place where the four Winners Row occupants will play along with three head-to-head trivia bouts in an effort to be the Power Player. Winners Row occupants will secretly answer the same questions as the Challenger and Money Chair occupant in an effort to earn the most correct answers. The individual that has the highest percentage of correct answers will be the Power Player. During the live show, the Power Player will be announced in between the second and third bout. At that time, the Power Player has the option of playing the third bout (the Winners Defense) against the current Money Chair occupant or designate another Winners Row occupant to play the bout. If the winner of the third bout is the current Money Chair occupant, that player will earn the amount of money the Winners Row player playing the bout has earned plus the amount of money the Money Chair occupant has earned up to that point. If the winner of the third bout is the Winners Row defender, he or she will take over the Money Chair and continue adding on to their updated amount of money earned plus the amount of money the Money Chair occupant had earned up to that point. How to Win Money When the 250,000 second countdown reaches zero, only the current Money Chair occupant who will be an occupant of Winners Row at that time and the three remaining Winners Row occupants will keep the amount of money theyve earned. Those four players will then compete in a single-elimination ladder style tournament for an additional $200 cash prize. The Winners Row occupant that has earned the fourth-most money will play a head-to-head 500 second bout against the occupant with the third-most in winnings. The winner of that bout will play the occupant with the second-most in winnings in a head-to-head 500 second bout. And the winner of that bout will play the occupant with the most winnings in a final head-to-head 500 second bout. The winner of that bout will earn $200 in addition to their current earnings.
