from University of Pennsylvania developed a Burns Depression Checklist for people Self-testing.

Sadness: Have you been feeling sad or down in the dumps? Discouragement: Does the future look bleak or hopeless? Low self-esteem: Do you feel worthless or think of yourself as a loser? Inferiority: Do you feel inadequate or inferior to others? Guilt: Do you get self-critical and blame yourself?

what is depression?
Depression is a common mental disease.

It is a state of low mood and aversion to


activity that can affect a persons thoughts, behavior and sense of well-being.

Depression becomes more and more common in modern society.


Depression affects nearly 15 million adults in the U.S.

About 20% teenages will experience depression before


they reach adulthoods. The incidence of depression among people is 17%.

Almost 80% suicide caused by depression.

English Comic actor Rowan Atkinson, known as Mr. Bean was also suffering from depression.

Ernest Hemingway, the winner of Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954, committed suicide because of severe depression.

The incidence is different among different jobs

What are the signs and symptoms of depression?


Depression varies from person to person, but there are some common signs and symptoms. The more symptoms you have, the stronger they are, and the longer theyve lastedthe more likely it is that youre dealing with depression. When these symptoms are overwhelming and disabling, that's when it's time to seek help.
