Dear Alderman Cappleman, I just signed a petition calling on you to reject JDL Developments proposal and dissolve the Montrose-Clarendon TIF district. You campaigned on a platform of sustainability, fiscal responsibility, diversity, and a commitment to ALL of the residents of the 46th ward. Last year, you rejected a proposal for this very same site for these very same reasons, writing Due to many of the thoughtful concerns regarding this proposal, including the amount of TIF funds requested and the density and size of the development, I have concluded that I cannot support this development... (http://bit.ly/1fmIcF6) The ward master plan calls for: 1. Prioritizing development that respects the Ward's unique historic and architectural offerings. 2. Making the 46th Ward a model for sustainability and environmental stewardship. 3. Prioritizing development along existing commercial corridors. 4. Promoting a family-friendly residential experience via new development in the 46th Ward. 5. Adding more housing for middle-income families with children to add more diversity in the ward. The Maryville properties are situated on the internationally renowned Chicago lakefront. These properties do not need a tax giveaway to entice a creative architect and a financially successful development vision in keeping with these goals of the ward master plan. Alderman Cappleman, I ask you to honor your commitment to fiscal responsibility, to be a good steward of public monies, and Uptowns bright future, and to REJECT JDL Developments proposal and DISSOLVE Montrose-Clarendon TIF district. Desirable lakefront property does not need a public subsidy!
