PERFORMANCE CHECKLIST
Bed Making (occupied bed)

1. Assess the clients
2. Collect adequate linens *Pay attention to the height of the bed
*Remember to collect all the linen hamper
3. Wash hands and observe other appropriate
infection control procedures
4. Place the fresh linen on the client’s chair or
overhead table
5. Strip the bed Make sure no client’s belonging in the bed
Instructor may put a coin on the bed
6. Check bed linens for any items belonging to the
clients
7. Loosen all bedding systematically
8. Remove the pillow cases
9. Keep the top flat sheet and bed spread for reuse Fold the top bed sheet unit in tidy e.g. surgical
blanket
10. Remove the waterproof drawsheet Make sure correct placement of the waterproof
sheet for reuse
11. Roll all soiled linen inside the bottom sheet and
put in linen hamper
12. Move up the mattress if necessary
13. Place the bottom sheet
14. Miter the sheet at the corners
15. Place the waterproof drawsheet
16. Lay the cloth drawsheet and tuck in
17. Apply the top flat sheet and spread
18. Make a vertical/ horizontal toe pleat
19. Miter the corners of the sheet
20. Make the cuff of the sheet
21. Put clean pillow cases Pay attention to the height of the bed for patient
safety
