Rules for assessing an essay: 1. Read the essay 2. For Q-1: Determine if the content of the essay is appropriate for the largely student audience and it is informative. If yes give a mark. If the word count of the essay is within limits give another mark. Explain very briefly what you expect the reader to learn from it in the box provided. 3. For Q-2: Deduct 1 mark for every error of format e.g. no title, no introduction, no conclusion, no paragraphs in the body. State the errors of format in the box provided. 4. For Q-3: Check for spelling and grammatical errors. Deduct 0.5mark for each error. Quote the exact errors in the box provided and write their correction next to them. 5. For Q-4: Check if the vocabulary chosen is accurate in explaining the meaning. Also keep in mind the tone which the writers words have and how the tone will change when you replace those words with your own. Deduct 0.5mark for each error. Quote each word choice error in the box provided. Also write the word which you choose to replace it next to it. 6. For Q-6: The more points an essay has on its topic the better it is. Pick important points/details from the article and directly quote in the box. For each point give one mark. Quote maximum 15 points. Also check if the ideas are linked together correctly and make sense. 7. Add your given marks for all questions. 8. If your added mark is 18 or above the essay is selected for publishing, else it is discarded. 9. The selected essays are approved by the Supervisor and the Editor-in-Chief, and then they are forwarded to the school reporters to type along with their assessment forms. 10. The editor of the essay must instruct the reporter in the typing the corrected version of the essay and selecting appropriate photographs to appear in the Newsletter

11. After being typed the essay will be checked for plagiarism on www.turnitin.com, if the essays copied content exceeds 30% it will not be published. The copied content must also be in quotes or be cited at the end of the essay.
