MIMO deployment: Solutions to the problem of co-existence

MIMO working mode and problem statement:
STTD (Spatial Time Transmit Diversity)
-EQ receiver would fall back to rake receiver due to STTD and that would degrade the legacy terminal. -Performance and average 30% throughput loss was observed at near and medium point

PSP *Primary and Secondary Pilot* There are two problems with PSP mode which were addressed. PA1 PA2 Leads to low amplifier efficiency

PCPICH CCH

SCPICH

Solution: VAM (Virtual Antenna Mapping)

Secondary pilot is seen as interference by legacy HSPA devices, leading to a decline in performance.

Two PAs have the same power, and the MIMO power configuration in each PA need to be balanced.

Evolution and Deployment strategy

Scenario 1. MIMO could be deployed for any HSDPA scenario. MIMO performs better in Dense urban and urban area (higher scattering, multipath) 2. The better the CQI is, the better MIMO performance, and MIMO technique is good for lower mobility users 3. 4. For operators who have only one carrier, MIMO is the unique choice for evolution. More than 1 carrier: deploy MIMO with HSDPA on only F1 in the early phase, and SW configure MIMO on the second carrier when capacity needs it. RF Power configuration Keep the same total output power: E.g.: existing network 20W 2*10W after MIMO upgrade; For new build network: Keep the same total output power of MIMO and Non-MIMO carriers. 2*20w is recommended as better coverage requirement.

Summary
MIMOs role in MBB evolution
MIMO is a necessary and cost effective step in the evolution of HSPA, as well as of LTE The industry chain of MIMO is mature (2x2MIMO terminals are already in commercial use), with a clear evolution path (QCT and other big players support it) Wide experience of commercial trials and deployments makes Huawei the leader in HSPA+ (and MIMO).

Performance
25% cell throughput gain compared to 16QAM, 15% compared to 64QAM. 50% average single users throughput gain with 16QAM and 20% with 64QAM. 100% Single user peak rate gain compared to 16QAM, 33.3% compared to 64QAM. With latest Huawei MIMO and HSDPA co-carrier solution, No service impact is perceived from HSDPA legacy users Major MIMO deployment issues are solved Legacy 1Tx RF cascade and new 2Tx RF cost effective solution New algorithms have been proved for solving MIMO+HSDPA co-carrier

MIMO is ready to go!
