So, I upgraded one of my Ubuntu boxes to 12.04 recently and have been using it d aily to do my work. Yesterday, I decided to convert one of my home videos that was taken with an iPh one into a compatible format that would work on my other devices. Since I have been using HandBrake in previous versions of Ubuntu, I decided to install it in 12.04 but found out that a version for 12.04 wasn't available to install, at least as of yesterday. I found a way to install it anyway, and thi s brief tutorial is going to show you how I did it. Objectives: Objectives: Install HandBrake 0.9.6 in Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise Pangolin) Enjoy! To get started, press Ctrl Alt T on your keyboard to open Terminal. When it opens run the commands below to add its PPA repository key. sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 816950D8

After that, type the commands below to create a repository file in Ubuntu. sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list.d/handbrake.list Then copy and paste the lines below into the file and save it.

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/stebbins/handbrake-releases/ubuntu oneiric main deb -src http://ppa.launchpad.net/stebbins/handbrake-releases/ubuntu oneiric main

h Reply Tim Legg April 30, 2013 at 11:25 PM I think this was also very close, but I have fallen into a kind of dependency hell. Might have to reinstall. I followed Stebbins steps to install a PPA and I think that was a big mistake. Youd think the handbrak e people would want to make it easy for people to install their software... dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of libas s4: libass4 depends on libfribidi0 (>= 0.19.2); however: Package libfribidi0 is not configured yet. dpkg: error processing libass4 (--configure): dependency pro blems - leaving unconfigured dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of handbrake-gtk: handbrake-gtk depends on libass4 (>= 0.9.7); however: Package lib ass4 is not configured yet. The popular video transcoder software HandBrake has just been updated to version 0.9.9 with support for Blu-ray (PGS) subtitle, additional video frame s, better audio remix, and improved Retina-resolution for icons within application. For those who don't know to transcode or convert sc that are not copyright onvert one media format into about HandBrake, it is a software that allows you most commonly used multimedia and any DVD or Blu-ray di protected. That's it!

After installing you should be able to go Unity Dash and launch it. If you decide you don't want it, run the commands below to completely remove it fr om your machine. sudo apt-get purge handbrake-gtk && sudo apt-get autoremove

The run the commands below to remove its PPA as well. sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:stebbins/handbrake-releases
