INDUSTRIAL VISIT: ISSUES IN THE INDUSTRY 15% 1. DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT This is a GROUP PROJECT of 3-4. For this project, you are required to IDENTIFY a CURRENT ISSUE in the chemical/bioengineering industry. Based on the issue that you have chosen, you are to IDENTIFY a party (INDIVIDUAL/ORGANISATION) that could help you in answering/giving opinions on the issue chosen. Below are the details of the project: 1.1 Identifying Current Issue & Interviewee 1.1.1 In your group, browse the net or ask your technical lecturers of the current issues that are of concern to the chemical industry. 1.1.2 You are to find at least three (magazine/newspaper/journal/online) articles which discuss that issue. Make sure that you write the references (Harvard Style of Referencing) for the articles. 1.1.3 You will need the approval of your lecturer on the issue you have chosen before you could proceed to the next task (item 1.1.4). 1.1.4 Based on the issue chosen, you are to identify an individual(s) or organization who/that is willing to help you discuss the issue that you have chosen. 1.2 Industrial Visit: Recorded Interview (5%) 1.2.1 You are going to interview the individual or someone representing the organization in 1.1.4 regarding the issue that you have chosen. For this purpose, send a letter of request (provided) or make a phone call to explain your intention to interview the person intended. Before the interview, prepare the questions that you would ask. Make sure the questions would enable you to extract the required information. The questions will be discussed with your lecturer. You are required to record your interview and submit it along with your report. You are to conduct the interview at your own suitable time.

1.3 Report Writing: Industrial Visit Review (15%) 1.3.1 Each group is to submit a short report regarding the information obtained from the interview. All sections of a brief formal report should be present in your Industrial Visit Review: Title page Heading Terms of Reference Procedures Findings & Discussion Conclusion & Recommendations References Appendices (if any) 1.3.3 Include a reference page at the end of the Report to acknowledge the sources of your information (especially in the Findings). You must include at least three (3) reliable and credible references. Include page numbers. The report should not be less than 4 pages and should not be more than 8 pages. IF YOU ARE FOUND OUT TO COPY OR PLAGIARIZE YOUR FRIENDSS WORK, OR FROM OTHER SOURCES, YOU ARE AUTOMATICALLY GIVEN A ZERO (0).

1.4 Presentation (20%) 1.4.1 Each group is required to present the findings of their industrial visit in the Seminar of Chemical and Bioengineering Issues which will be conducted on Week 11. The details of this seminar will be explained later. All group members are required to be involved in the presentation. The duration of the presentation will be 15 minutes plus 5 minutes for Q & A session.

1.5 Peer Evaluation 1.5.1 At the end of the project, each of you is going to assess your group members contribution to the project. Your assessment would help the lecturer in determining

EVALUATION The assessment for your Industrial Visit Report will be as follows: NO 1 CRITERIA Content Adequate & relevant information is included in each sections of the report. 2 Language Accurate grammar especially the tenses & passive voice, language usage contributes to clarity, specific and accurate choice of words, use of transitions to create coherence, accurate spelling & punctuation. 3 Format Accuracy in format & conventions of a report. 4 Reference Includes at least 3 reference, accurate format 5 Recorded interview Questions are able to extract the information required for the task. No sensitive/inappropriate questions are asked. Questions are put forward and worded in a courteous manner. TOTAL MARKS 10
