what you need to improve on and what you are doing well.  Begin by having your Three Pigs home 
out in front of you.  Follow the instructions given and fill out the chart below.

1) Identify the Need or Problem
­ In your Engineering Notebook, locate where you wrote the word “PROBLEM.”

­ If you wrote the word “PROBLEM,” circle the word PROBLEM on your assessment rubric.  
­ In your Engineering Notebook, locate where you restated the problem in your own words.  
­ Underline it.
­ On your assessment rubric, write what page you restated the problem.
­ If you restated the problem, circle #1 on your assessment rubric.
2) Research the Need or Problem
­ In your Engineering Notebook, locate where you did you wrote the word “RESEARCH.”

­ If you wrote the word “RESEARCH,” circle the word RESEARCH on your assessment rubric.
­ In your research, find where you named the five types of buildings and give an example of each type.
­ Put a star next to each type and example in your Engineering Notebook.  (5 possible stars)
­ On your assessment rubric next to “a,” write what page you recorded the types and examples.
­ In your research, find where you listed and described the steps in the construction process.
­ Put a star next to each of the eight steps that you described in your Engineering Notebook.  (8 possible stars)  
­ On your assessment rubric next to “b,” write what page you recorded the eight steps and descriptions.
­ In your research, find where you sketched and recorded what each loads' affect is from the LOADS’ Lab.
­ Put a star next to each of the seven loads sketches & descriptions.  (7 possible stars)  
­ On your assessment rubric next to “c,” write what page you drew the sketches and recorded the descriptions.
­ Count the number of stars you just made in your Engineering Notebook.
­ If you have 20 stars, circle #2 on your assessment rubric.
3) Develop Possible Solutions
­ Find where you sketched three possible solutions for your Three Pigs home.
­ Circle each one of them.
­ On your assessment rubric, write what page your possible solution sketches are on.
­ If you have three sketches circled, circle #3 on your assessment rubric.
4) Select the Best Solution
­ In your Engineering Notebook, locate where you selected your best solution and sketched it.
­ Circle this sketch. 
­ On your assessment rubric, write what page your best solution sketch it is on.  
­ In your Engineering Notebook, locate where you stated why this choice was the best using at least three words from your research.  
­ Circle each of these three words.
­ Write what those three words are on the line after #4.  
­ If you sketched your best solution and used at least three words to describe why it’s best, circle #4 on your assessment rubric.
5) Construct the Prototype/Model
­ If your home is completed, circle #5 on your assessment rubric.
­ If you have not completed your home, on the front of your assessment rubric after #5, write when you are coming in to complete it, and then put your pen down.  You will need to come before or after school to complete this 
assessment.
6) Test and Evaluate the Solution
­ To test and evaluate your home, we will compare it to the Criteria and Constraints.

­ If your house is at least 2” above the building site, circle 2”.

­ If your house fits in your period drawer, circle the word fits.

­ If you built your own home for the Three Pigs, circle the word each.

­ If you used only ONE material (wood, straw, or bricks) for construction, circle the word one.

­ You could use scrap paper for your construction, so circle the word scrap.

­ If you did not use the scissors to cut the wood, circle the word vice.

­ If you did not change the size of you building site (colored paper), circle the word colored.

­ If you worked at the same pace as your workstation partner, circle the word pace.
7) Communicate the Solution
­ You will communicate your solution in large group – the Big Bad Wolf will try to huff and puff and blow your house in.
8) Redesign or Improve 
­ You did not need to redesign or improve your solution.
