Tuition at the University of Tulsa College of Law will become more affordable in the fall of 2014. That is when the $18,000 Access to Legal Scholarship (ALES) plan goes into effect for all incoming rst year law students. The scholarship continues annually through the students law school career provided that a minimum 2.0 grade point average is maintained. Janet K. Levit, dean, and Dean John Rogers Endowed Chair, said the program, funded by the University of Tulsa, is a response to the rising costs of legal education that might prohibit a person considering a legal career. The ALES program will create more than $50,000 in tuition savings for each juris doctorate student entering TU from Oklahoma, Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North and South Dakota, Texas and Wyoming. Students must have graduated from an accredited undergraduate institution or be a resident of the heartland region, Levit said. Scholarships are automatically granted when a person is admitted to the TU Law School. Martha Cordell, associate dean of student affairs, said the scholarship makes it possible for all those interested in a private, very highly individualized legal education to consider TU. These potential students might not have considered us because of the costs. See TU, 2
