Check if applicable (and respond to the 3rdquestion): This project uses the 2014 National History Day theme, Rights and Responsibilities

1. THESIS STATEMENT
Present the projects argument or interpretation in two sentences. If you are using the NHD theme, you might want to make it evident in your thesis statement.

Mamie Till's decision to have a public, open casket funeral for Emmett and her speeches around the country were fundamental in inspiring Northern African Americans to participate in the Civil ights Movement of the !"#$'s%

2. SUMMARY OF PROJECT
Briefly explain your project and its conclusion. Include: How and why did change happen and what was the impact? Why is it historically significant? What historical meaning or importance can we learn from your findings? My project was about the impact that Mamie Till had after the death of her son. The change was that Civil Rights Acts were passed after lots of African Americans were inspired to protest after the death of her son. This is historically significant because segregation would still exist if it wasnt for the Civil Rights Acts. We can learn that Emmett Tills death inspired African Americans to protest for equality, leading to Civil Rights Acts.

3. Required for projects using the National History Day theme only.
Explain how this project integrates the NHD theme Rights and Responsibilities into its argument. This project integrates the NHD theme because African Americans were given the right to vote after many years of protest and Mamie Tills actions were important in inspiring people to protest.

4. PROCESS A. What historical question did you start off withand how did it change once you began doing your research?

The question that I started with was, what affected the Civil Rights movement? Then, I learned about Emmett Till and focused more on his impact.

B. What kinds of sources did you use as evidence to develop your argument (for example, letters, photographs, government documents, interviews, etc.)? I used photographs, letters, websites, books, and government documents.

C. Select one piece of evidence that you used and explain how it influenced your argument. One piece of evidence that I used was Mamie Tills book titled Death of Innocence. This helped my show how she affected others and it also had evidence on other protests and rallies that occurred.

D. List libraries (other than school), museums, and other institutions that you visited to do your research. I did my research at my school library and at home.
