Vorbemerkung der Fragesteller:

Preliminary remarks of the questioner:
Drahtlosnetzwerke haben in den letzten Jahren eine starke Verbreitung erfahren.
Bereits 2005 wurden in der Europäischen Union mehr Notebooks als
Desktop-Rechner verkauft, die meisten davon mit eingebautem WLAN-Chip.
Öffentliche und kommerzielle WLAN-Access-Points mit Internet-Anbindung,
so genannte „Hot Spots“, ermöglichen an vielen Orten den Zugriff auf das
weltweite Datennetz. WLAN ist für viele eine willkommene Alternative zum

Kabelsalat, der in mancher Firma und in manchem Privathaushalt durch die

Netzwerkinstallation entstanden ist. Weitere Vorteile sind: WLANs sind
schnell zu installieren, decken eine große Fläche ab und arbeiten kostengünstig.
Auch dieses sind Gründe, warum im privaten Bereich mehr und mehr die
drahtlosen Netzwerke Einzug finden.

Wireless networks have experienced a large expansion in recent years. Already in

2005 there were more Notebooks than Desktop-Computers sold in the European
Union, most of them with an inbuilt WLAN-Chip. Public and commercial WLAN-
Access-Points with Internet-Connection, so called “Hot Spots”, in many places
facilitate the access to the worldwide data network. WLAN is for many a welcome
alternative to the cable-congestion which exists in many offices and in many
private households due to network installation. Further advantages are: WLANs
are quick to install, cover a large area and work cost-effectively.
These are reasons why more and more wireless networks are entering the private
sector.

Das Marktvolumen des WLAN-Hardwaremarktes stieg laut IDC (International

Data Corporation) allein in Deutschland vom Jahr 2003 mit einem Volumen
von 144 Mio. US-Dollar auf 313,9 Mio. US-Dollar im Jahr 2004, dies ist eine
Steigerung von 118 Prozent.

In Germany alone the market volume of the WLAN-Hardware market increased

according to IDC (International Data Corporation) from 2003 with a volume
of $144 million US to $313.9 million US in the year 2004 which is an increase of
118 percent.

Die von WLAN-Geräten benutzten Funkfrequenzen liegen um 2,4 GHz bzw.

5,4 GHz, also im Mikrowellenbereich. Ihre Reichweite kann unter bestimmten
Voraussetzungen mehrere hundert Meter betragen. Auch durch diese Technik
entstehen, ebenso wie bei der Mobilfunktechnik, hochfrequente elektromagnetische
Felder. Sie sind somit, ebenso wie die Mobilfunktechnik, Gegenstand
von kontroversen Auseinandersetzungen im Hinblick auf die gesundheitlichen
Auswirkungen.

The telecommunications frequencies used by WLAN-equipment are around 2.4 GHz and
5.4 GHz, thus are in the microwave region. Their operating range can, under
certain conditions, amount to several hundred metres. Also, high frequency
electromagnetic fields occur due to this technology, just as occurs with mobile
telecommunications technology. Both they and mobile telecommunications
technology are the subject of controversial arguments about health effects.

Zwar gibt es nach mehreren Studien, u. a. des Bundesamts für Strahlenschutz,

nach dem aktuellen Stand der Wissenschaft keinen Nachweis, dass es innerhalb
der gesetzlichen Grenzwerte der effektiven Strahlungsleistung eine
gesundheitliche
Gefährdung besteht. Allerdings ist ebenso wie beim Mobilfunk eine
abschließende Bewertung noch nicht erfolgt. Das Bundesamt für Strahlenschutz
empfiehlt in seiner Antwort auf eine Anhörung des Bayerischen Landtages,
dass im Zuge der die Grenzwertregelung ergänzenden Vorsorgemaßnah men auch im
Zusammenhang mit WLAN kabelgebundene Alternativen vorzuziehen
sind (Anhörung des Ausschusses für Umwelt und Verbraucherschutz
des Bayerischen Landtages zum Thema „Einfluss des Mobilfunks auf die
menschliche Befindlichkeit“ am 7. Dezember 2006). Auch sei die Frage nach
der altersabhängigen Energieaufnahme und Energieverteilung noch nicht
befriedigend
beantwortet. Diese Aussagen bewegten den Bayerischen Landtag,
eine Empfehlung an die Schulen herauszugeben, in dem die Schulen aufgefordert
werden, möglichst auf WLAN zu verzichten. Zu einer ähnlichen Empfehlung
kommt Professor Lawrie Challis, Leiter des britischen Forschungsprogramms

zu Mobiltelekommunikation und Gesundheit laut einer Meldung in

FOXNews vom 4. Mai 2007. Er hatte dort geäußert, dass Kinder einen
Sicherheitsabstand zu den eingebauten Antennen in WiFi-aktiven (Wireless
Fidelity) Laptops wahren sollten, bis weitere Forschung durchgeführt worden ist.

Indeed, there is according to several studies, amongst others those of the

Federal Office for Radiation Protection [Bundesamt für Strahlenschutz], no proof
according to the present state of scientific knowledge that there is any health
damage[caused] within the legal limit. However, just as with mobile
telecommunications, a final evaluation has not yet taken place. The German
Federal Ministry for Radiation Protection [Das Bundesamt für Strahlenschutz]
recommends in its response to a hearing before the Bavarian Landtages
[Bayerischen Landtages], that in view of the regulated limits supplementary
precautionary measures such as wired cable alternatives are to be preferred to
the WLAN system (Hearing of the Committee for Environment and Consumer
Protection of the Bavarian Landtag on the theme “Effect of mobile
telecommunications on the human sensitivity” on the 7th December 2006). Also the
question about the age-dependent energy absorption and energy distribution has
not yet been satisfactorily answered. This statement led the Bavarian Landtag to
issue a recommendation to schools in which the schools are called upon to avoid
WLAN, if possible.

Professor Lawrie Challis, leader of the British research programme on mobile

telecommunication and health comes to a similar recommendation, according to a
report in FOXNews from the 4th May 2007. He stated there that children should
maintain a safe distance from the built-in antennas in WiFi-active (Wireless
Fidelity) Laptops until further research has been carried out.

Questions and Responses -

1. Welche (Teil-)Studien zu WLAN wurden im Deutschen Mobilfunkforschungsprogramm

durchgeführt, und zu welchen Ergebnissen sind diese
Studien gekommen?

Zum Thema WLAN wurden im Rahmen des Deutschen Mobilfunk Forschungsprogramms

die Studien „Bestimmung der Exposition bei Verwendung kabelloser
Übermittlungsverfahren im Haushalt und Büro“ und „Bestimmung der realen
Feldverteilung von hochfrequenten elektromagnetischen Feldern in der Umgebung
von Wireless LAN-Einrichtungen (WLAN) in innerstädtischen Gebieten“
durchgeführt.

1.What (part-)studies on WLAN were carried out in the German Mobile

Telecommunications Programme, and what conclusions did these studies reach?

On the subject of WLAN, under the framework of the German Mobile

Telecommunications Programme [Deutschen Mobilfunk Forschungsprogramm] these
studies were carried out: “Determination of the exposure in the use of wireless
transmission processes in the home and office,” and “Determination of the actual
field distribution of high frequency electromagnetic fields in the neighbourhood
of Wireless LAN-installations (WLAN) in urban areas.”

Die in der Umgebung von öffentlich zugänglichen WLAN-Hot-Spots erhobenen

Expositionswerte lagen alle unterhalb des in der Ratsempfehlung der
Europäischen Union 1999/519/EG genannten Referenzwertes in Höhe von
10 W/m2. Unterschieden wurde dabei zwischen zeitlichen und räumlichen

Spitzenwerten sowie zwischen zeitlich und räumlich gemittelten Werten.

Während die gefundenen Spitzenwerte zwischen 0,1 und 0,2 W/m²lagen, ergaben
sich in Anlehnung an die Vorgaben der EU-Ratsempfehlung räumlich
über typische menschliche Körperdimensionen und zeitlich über 6 Minuten
gemittelte Werte, die ein bis zwei Größenordnungen (Faktor 10 bis 100) darunter
lagen.

The increased exposure values in the neighbourhood of publicly-accessible WLAN-

Hot-Spots were all below the reference level of 10 W/m2 stated in the advisory
recommendations of the European Union 1999/519/EG. Distinctions were thereby
made between temporal and spatial peak values as well as between temporal and
spatial average values. Whilst the peak values found were between 0.1 and 0.2
W/m², the averaging of the values in accordance with the EU recommendations –
spatially over typical human body dimensions and temporally over 6 minutes -
resulted in average values that were one or two magnitudes (factor 10 to 100)
below.

Bei extremer Nahfeldexposition einer mit Kontakt zum Körper betriebenen

WLAN Einsteckkarte für Laptops (Situation: Laptop auf Oberschenkeln)
wurde unter Laborbedingungen ein maximaler, über 10g gemittelter lokaler
SAR-Wert von 0,05 W/kg gemessen. Berechnungen unter Zugrundelegung
ungünstigster Annahmen führten zu maximalen Werten bis 0,11 W/kg.
Überschreitungen der empfohlenen Grenzwerte werden auch unter ungünstigsten
Annahmen als unwahrscheinlich eingestuft. Die in der Praxis tatsächlich
auftretenden Expositionen werden in besonderem Maße auch vom aktuellen
Datenverkehrsaufkommen im Netzwerk bestimmt und liegen üblicherweise
deutlich unter den genannten Maximalwerten.

With extreme near-field continuous exposure to the body via contact with an
operating WLAN network card for Laptops (Situation: Laptop on the thighs
under laboratory conditions) a maximum averaged local SAR-value of 0.05 W/kg was
measured over 10 grams of tissue. Calculations carried out using a basis of
least-favorable assumptions led to maximum values up to 0.11 W/kg. It is
considered that violation of the recommended limit is improbable even under the
most unfavourable assumptions. The exposures that actually occur in practice are
determined to a large extent by the actual data traffic occurrence in the
network and are normally clearly below the stated maximum values.

2. Plant die Bundesregierung Studien, um die altersabhängige Energieaufnahme

und Energieverteilung zu untersuchen?

investigate age-dependent energy absorption and energy distribution?
Yes.

3. Wenn ja, in welchem Rahmen, und wenn nein, warum nicht?

Aufbauend auf der im Rahmen des Deutschen Mobilfunk Forschungsprogramms
(DMF) bearbeiteten „Machbarkeitsstudie zur Untersuchung altersabhängiger
Wirkungen hochfrequenter elektromagnetischer Felder auf der Basis
relevanter biophysikalischer und biologischer Parameter“ wird derzeit eine
entsprechende
Hauptstudie durchgeführt. Darüber hinaus wird aus UFOPLAN-
Mitteln des Bundesministeriums für Umwelt, Naturschutz und Reaktorsicherheit
in einem weiteren Forschungsvorhaben derzeit die „Numerische Bestimmung
der Spezifischen Absorptionsrate bei Ganzkörper Exposition von Kindern“
untersucht.

Building on the framework of the feasibility study investigating age-related

effects due to high frequency electromagnetic fields on relevant biophysical and
biological paramenters by the German Mobile Telecommunications Research Program,
a relevant principal study is being carried out. Moreover, in another research
project funded by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation
and Reactor Safety [Bundesministeriums für Umwelt, Naturschutz und
Reaktorsicherheit], the “Numerical Determination of the Specific Absorption Rate
for Whole Body Exposure of Children” is being investigated.

4. Welchen Anteil haben die WLAN-Netzwerke an der durchschnittlichen

Exposition der Bevölkerung?

Von so genannten WLAN-Hot-Spots in öffentlich zugänglichen Bereichen geht

für die allgemeine Bevölkerung derzeit nur eine geringe zusätzliche Exposition
aus. Im beruflichen und privaten Umfeld eingesetzte WLAN-Netzwerke können
aber die Expositionen anderer Funkdienste durchaus dominieren, wenn ein
entsprechender Abstand zum Sender (Access Point oder Endgerät) unterschritten
wird.

4. What proportion of the average exposure of the population comes from the
WLAN-Networks?

There is only a small additional exposure of the general population from so-
called WLAN-Hot-Spots in publicly accessible areas. WLAN-Networks employed in
the occupational and private environments can however definitely dominate the
exposures from other telecommunications services if an appropriate distance from
the transmitter (Access Point or terminal) is not kept.

5. Welche Vorsorgemaßnahmen werden in der Bundesregierung und/oder in

anderen EU-Staaten getroffen, um die Belastung der Bevölkerung durch
WLAN möglichst gering zu halten?

Direkte Vorsorgemaßnahmen werden von der Bundesregierung nicht getroffen.

Die Bundesregierung empfiehlt allgemein, die persönliche Strahlenexposition
durch hochfrequente elektromagnetische Felder so gering wie möglich zu halten,
d. h. herkömmliche Kabelverbindungen zu bevorzugen, wenn auf den Einsatz
von funkgestützten Lösungen verzichtet werden kann.

5. What precautionary measures are being taken in the German Federal Government
and/or in other EU-States in order to keep the exposure of the populations from
WLAN as low as possible?

Direct precautionary measures are not being employed by the German Federal
Government [Bundesregierung]. The German Federal Government [Bundesregierung]
recommends, in general, keeping the personal radiation exposure from high
frequency electromagnetic fields as low as possible, that is to say, i.e. to
prefer conventional wired connections, if the use of wireless-supported
solutions can be avoided.

The German Federal Government [Bundesregierung] does not know about the measures
taken by other EU states.

6. Wie hoch sind die Wachstumsraten von öffentlichen und kommerziellen

WLAN-Access-Points in Deutschland in den letzten Jahren?

Hierzu liegen der Bundesregierung keine konkreten aktuellen Zahlen vor.

The German Federal Government [Bundesregierung] has no definite current figures
available on this.

Nach den Angaben im Tätigkeitsbericht 2004/2005 der Bundesnetzagentur gab

es zum Beispiel im Jahr 2004 rund 6 000 öffentlich zugängliche W-LAN Hot-
Spots, die durch zahlreiche nicht-öffentliche W-LANs ergänzt wurden.

According to the information in the Activity Report [Tätigkeitsbericht]

2004/2005 of the Federal Network Agency [Bundesnetzagentur] there were, for
example, in 2004 about 6,000 publicly-accessible W-LAN Hot-Spots that were
replaced by private W-LANs.

Ende 2006 gab es in Deutschland rund 9 000 öffentliche W-LAN-Hot-Spots,

gegenüber
rund 8 000 Hot-Spots Ende 2005. Die Wachstumsrate lag im Jahr 2006
bei ca. 13 Prozent.

At the end of 2006, there were in Germany about 9,000 public W-LAN-Hot-Spots
compared to about 8,000 Hot-Spots at the end of 2005. The growth rate
in 2006 was approximately 13 per cent.

7. Wie hoch ist die Abdeckung in Deutschland mit WLAN?

Die Bundesregierung hat darüber keine Informationen; eine Abdeckungsrate für
Deutschland kann nicht definiert werden.

The German Federal Government [Bundesregierung] has no information about that; a
coverage rate for Germany cannot be given.

Frequenzen für WLAN-Anwendungen in den Bereichen 2,4 GHz und 5,8 GHz
sind mittels Allgemeinzuteilung dem Markt zur Verfügung gestellt worden. WLAN
ist örtlich z. B. in Flughafen-oder Bahnhofsgebäuden, gelegentlich auch
an öffentlichen Plätzen, Internet-Cafés usw. zu finden. Es gibt auch Modelle,
nach denen private Hot-Spots in Form eines lokalen Netzwerks nutzbar gemacht
werden sollen.

Frequencies for WLAN-usage in the regions 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz are made available
to the market by spectrum allocations. WLAN is to be found locally, for
example, in airports or station buildings, sometimes also in public places,
Internet-Cafés etc. There are also models for the use of private Hot-Spots in
the form of a local network.

8. Hat die Bundesregierung in der Vergangenheit Kommunen unterstützt um

Drahtlosnetze einzurichten oder plant die Bundesregierung dieses für die
Zukunft?
Die Bundesregierung verweist für den Zugang zur Breitbandkommunikation auf
alle technischen Möglichkeiten.

town councils in order to set up wireless networks or does the German Federal
Government [Bundesregierung] plan this for the future?
The German Federal Government [Bundesregierung] refers to (or points to) all
technical possibilities with regard to access to broadband communications.

9. Wie beurteilt die Bundesregierung das Modell der Nutzung von privaten
WLAN-Netzen von Dienstleistern durch Kommunen?

Nach Auffassung der Bundesregierung ist die Entscheidung über die Nutzung
von privaten W-LAN Sache der Kommunen.

According to the view of the German Federal Government [Bundesregierung] the

decision about the use of private W-LAN is the affair of the town councils.

Hält die Bundesregierung die Empfehlung des Bayerischen Landtages, in
Schulen möglichst auf WLAN zu verzichten und kabelgebundene Lösungen
vorzuziehen, für richtig?

Die Frage, ob ein funkgestütztes W-LAN Netzwerk oder eine kabelgebundene

Lösung in Schulen vorzuziehen ist, unterliegt einer individuellen Entscheidung.
Die Bundesregierung gibt dazu keine Bewertung ab.

Does the German Federal Government [Bundesregierung] consider the recommendation
of the Bavarian Legislative Assembly [Bayerischen Landtages] to dispense with
WLAN in schools, if possible, and to prefer the use of cable connected
solutions, to be correct?

The question, whether a wireless controlled W-LAN Network or a cable connected

solution is to be preferred in schools, is subject to an individual decision.
The German Federal Government [Bundesregierung] does not provide an evaluation.

activities in this direction, and does the German Federal Government
[Bundesregierung] consider [radiation] measurement programmes at schools to be
sensible?

The German Federal Government [Bundesregierung]is not aware of any planned

activities in this direction.

Die Bundesregierung erwartet derzeit keinen zusätzlichen Erkenntnisgewinn

aus speziellen Messprogrammen an Schulen, da vergleichbare Szenarien in den
in der Antwort zu Frage 1 genannten Studien untersucht wurden. Dabei lagen
sowohl die gemessenen realen Feldverteilungen um WLAN-Hotspots als auch die
unter Zugrundelegung ungünstigster Annahmen berechneten Maximalwerte unterhalb
der bestehenden Grenzwerte.

The German Federal Government [Bundesregierung] at present does not expect any
additional gain in knowledge from special [radiation] measurement programmes at
schools, since comparable scenarios were investigated in the studies named in
the answer to Question 1. Thereby, both the measured actual [radiation] field
distribution around WLAN-Hotspots and also the calculated maximum values based
on most unfavourable assumptions were found to be below the existing limit.

Welche Maßnahmen plant die Bundesregierung, um die Strahlenexposition

der Bevölkerung und hier besonders die der Kinder durch hochfrequente
elektromagnetische Felder zu verringern?

Die Bundesregierung ergreift bereits verschiedene Maßnahmen:

Which measures does the German Federal Government plan in order to reduce the
radiation exposure of the population and here especially that of the children
from high frequency fields?

The German Federal Government is already taking various measures:

Das Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung fördert das Forschungsprogramm

miniWatt II zur Minimierung der Immission künftiger Funkdienste.

The Federal Ministry for Education and Research [Bundesministerium für Education
and research] is promoting the research programme miniWatt II for the
minimization of emissions from future telecommunications services.

Das Bundesministerium für Umwelt, Naturschutz und Reaktorsicherheit sowie

das Bundesamt für Strahlenschutz informieren aktiv über Möglichkeiten
zur Verringerung der persönlichen Exposition. Hierzu gehören u. a. Infoblätter
und -broschüren, Unterrichtsmaterialien für Schulen zum Thema Mobilfunk,
Erarbeitung von Kriterien für strahlungsarme Mobiltelefone (z. B. für
einen „Blauen Engel“) und für Baby-Überwachungsgeräte. Die Bundesregierung
prüft die Notwendigkeit weitergehender Maßnahmen vor dem Hintergrund des
aktuellen wissenschaftlichen Kenntnisstandes laufend. Dabei werden auch die

The Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation and Reactor Safety

Strahlenschutz] are actively informing people about possibilities for the
reduction of the personal exposure. This includes, among other things,
information leaflets and brochures; instructional material for schools on the
theme of mobile telecommunications; development of criteria for low-radiation
mobile telephones (eg. for a “Blue Angel”[logo]); and for baby-surveillance
equipment.

The German Federal Government [Die Bundesregierung]is continually examining the

necessity for further measures against the background of the present state of
scientific knowledge. In so doing it will consider the results of the research
projects mentioned in the answer to question 3.

The BioElectric Shield Company has been dedicated to helping create a more balanced and peaceful
world one person at a time since 1990.

In the 1980’s, when Dr. Charles Brown, DABCN, (Diplomate American College of Chiropractic
Neurologists), the inventor of the Shield, became aware that a certain group of his patients exhibited
consistent symptoms of stress and a slower rate of healing that the rest of his patient population. This
group of patients all worked long hours in front of CRT computer screens for many hours a day, and
usually 6 days a week. He began researching the effects of electromagnetic radiation in the literature, and
found there were many associated health effects. He wanted to help these patients, and hoped that he
could come up with a low-tech, high effect product.

In 1989, he had a series of waking dream that

showed him a specific pattern of crystals. Each
of 3 dreams clarified the placement of the
crystals. He showed the patterns to an individual
who can see energy and she confirmed that the
pattern produced several positive effects. She
explained that the Shield interacts with a
person’s energy field (aura) to strengthen and
balance it. Effectively it created a cocoon of
energy that deflects away energies that are
not compatible. In addition, the Shield acts to
balance the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies of the aura.

A series of studies was conducted to investigate the possible protection from EMF's wearing this kind of
device. Happily the studies were consistent in showing that people remained strong when exposed to
these frequencies. Without the shield, most people showed measurable weakening in the presence of both
EMF’s and stress. Of interest to us was that these same effects were noted when people IMAGINED
stress in their lives. It seems obvious that how we think and what we are exposed to physically both have

Since that time, we have sold tens of thousands of Shields and had feedback from more people than we

Charles W. Brown, D.C., D.A.B.C.N.

Dr. Brown graduated in 1979 w ith honors from Palmer College of Chiropractic. He
is a Di plomate of the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners and a Di plomate of
the A merican B oard o f Chiropractic Neu rologists. He al so i s cer tified i n Ap plied
Kinesiology. Dr. Brown has had his own radio show "Health Tips". Additionally, he
has t aught an atomy at B oston Un iversity an d t he New E ngland I nstitute o f M assage
Therapy.

He invented the BioElectric Shield, Conditioning Yourself for Peak Performance (a DVD of series of
Peak Performance Postures with Declarations) and Dr. Brown’s Dust and Allergy Air Filters, as well as
Dr. Brown’s Dust and Allergy Anti-Microbial, Anti-Viral Spray. He is presently working on other
inventions.

Dr. Brown’s experience of the Shield is that it has helped him move deeper into spiritual realms, quantum
energy, and creative meditative spaces. It has always been his desire to help others, and he is grateful that
the Shield is helping so many people worldwide.

Virginia Bonta Brown, M.S., O.T.R.

As child, I always wanted others feel better. As a teenager, I volunteered as a

Candy Striper at the local hospital, wheeling around a cart of gifts to patients’
rooms. The hospital setting didn’t really draw me, so summers were spend
teaching tennis to kids at a wonderful camp in Vermont. With the idea of
becoming a psychologist, I received a B.S. degree from Hollins College in

psychology and worked with drug addicts for a year. Called by the practicality of Occupational Therapy, I
received an M.S. degree in Occupational Therapy from Boston University in 1974

For the next 16 years, working with ADD, ADHD, autistic and other special needs children was my
passion. Because of my specialty in Sensory Integration Dysfunction (a technique based on neurology), I
met Anne Shumway Cook, RPT, PhD, a brilliant PT, with a PhD in neurophysiology. We created special
therapy techniques for children with vestibular (balance and position in space) dysfunction while she
worked with the Vestibular Treatment Center at Good Samaritan, and while I managed the therapy
services of the Children's Program at this same hospital in Portland, Oregon. A fun project at that time
also included collaborating with a team of other therapists to create a therapy in the public schools manual
for OT, PT and Adapted PT procedures. It included goals and treatment plans which has served as a
model for nearly every school district in the United States. There was nothing quite so satisfying as
seeing a child move from frustration to joy as they began to master their coordination and perceptual
skills.

For the next seven years, I shifted my focus. Married to Dr. Charles Brown, we decided that I’d begin to
work with him in his Pain and Allergy Clinic, first in Boston and then in Billings, Montana. During this
time I began to hear people talk about how thoroughly stressed out they were by their job environment.
Their neck and shoulders hurt from sitting in front of computer screens. They were fatigued and
overloaded dealing with deadlines and other stressed out people! They wanted to be sheltered from the
“storm” of life. Though conversation, myofascial deep tissue and cranio-sacral therapy helped them, the
stress never disappeared. It was our patients who really let us know that something that managed their
environment and their energy would be a wonderful miracle in their lives.

What could we do to help them? I became an OT so I could help children and adults accomplish whatever
it was that they wanted to do. When my husband, Dr. Brown, invented the Shield, initially I felt I was
abandoning my patients. Running the company meant I didn’t spend as much time in the clinic. But then
I saw what the Shield was accomplishing with people. They got Shields and their lives began to improve.
People told me they felt less overwhelmed, didn’t get the headaches in front of the computer, were less
affected by other people’s energy and enjoyed life more. I began noticing the same thing!

In 2000, we received a request for a customized shield for a child with ADD/ADHD. After it was
designed, our consultant told us that she could create a special shield that would help any person with

When we started the company in 1990, I was still seeing patients nearly full time. I was wearing the
Shield and began to notice something different about my own life. At the clinic, I noticed my energy was
very steady all day. Instead of being exhausted at the end of the day, particularly when I had treated
particularly needy patients, I was pleasantly tired and content. I noticed I was more detached from the
patient’s problem. In other words, I didn’t allow it to tire me. Instead I became more compassionate and
intuitive about what they needed to help them. I was able to hear my Guides more clearly as they helped
me help them. As I wore it during meditation, I felt myself go deeper into a space of Unity of all things,
from people to mountains to stars.

Over the years, I’ve spoken with many, many people, from all walks of life. Because they consistently
tell me how much it’s helped them, I become more committed each year to offer this to as many people
as possible. It is my belief that the Shield is a gift from the Divine, and that those who wear it will be
helped on earth to accomplish their own mission, with greater health and greater compassion. For this
reason, it is my desire to provide the blessing of the BioElectric Shield to as many people as possible.

Carolyn (Workinger) Nau:

I joined the BioElectric Shield Company in January 1994 when the shipping and order
department consisted of one computer and a card table. With my help, the company
grew to what it is today. From 1994 to 2000 I traveled and did approximately 100 trade
shows, talking to people, muscle testing and really finding out how much difference the
Shield makes in people’s lives.

An empath and natural intuitive, I have personally found the Shield to be one of my most important and
valued possessions, as it assists me in not taking on everyone else’s stuff. That ability has also been
invaluable when I talk to and connect with clients in person, over the phone or even via email. I am
frequently able to “tune in” and help advise on the best Shield choice for an individual.

I felt a strong pull to move to California and reluctantly left the company in 2000. While in California I
met the love of my life, David Nau. After being married on the pier in Capitola, we relocated to
Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he’d accepted a job as design director of an award winning exhibit firm.
David is an artist and designer, and has taken all the newest photos of the Shields. They are the most
beautiful and accurate images we have ever had!
Through the magic of the internet I was able to return to working with the company in January 2008. I
love how things have changed to allow me to live where I want and work from home. I am fully involved
and even more excited about the Shield’s benefits and the need for people to be strengthened and
protected. I am thrilled to be back and loving connecting with old and new customers. It’s great to pick up
the phone and have someone say, “Wow, I remember you. You sold me a Shield in Vegas in 1999”

How did I get started making Energy Necklaces? It's not every day that going to a trade show can totally
change your life. It did mine. I must have been ready for a drastic change. I just didn't know it. I guess
I’ve just always been a natural Quester.

Quite by chance, I went to the Bead and Button Show in Milwaukee. The show is an entire convention
center filled with beads, baubles and semi-precious stones. I looked over my purchases at the end of the
first day and realized I didn't have enough of some for earrings. So I went back with a friend who
normally is the voice of reason. I thought if I got carried away she’d help me stop. Joke was on me.

I was unable to resist all those incredible goodies. My friend turned out to be a very bad influence, she’d
find fabulous things and hold semi-precious and even precious stones in front of me saying "Have you
seen this?". How can a woman resist all that beauty? I can’t! I couldn't. I walked out with a suitcase full
of beads and stones. The only problem was, I didn’t even know how to make jewelry.

I spent the summer taking classes, reading books, practicing jewelry making. Immediately people were
stopping me in the street asking about the jewelry I was wearing. It finally dawned on me that just maybe
I was meant to design and share my creations. Thus Bold Bodacious Jewelry was born.

I still laugh about this whole process. Obviously the Universe or someone was guiding me. Looking back
it should have been obvious that I was buying enough to start a business. But at the time, it just felt like
the right thing to do. Not a conscious plan. Sometimes following your gut can change your life.

In the fall of 2008, I felt a pull to examine how various gemstones could enhance the protective and
healing effects of the BioElectric Shield. I also wanted to wear great jewelry and my gold and diamond
Shied at the same time, so I created something new so I could do that. After making a few “Shield energy
necklaces”, I was convinced that not only was my jewelry beautiful and fun to wear, it had additional
healing qualities as well. Since then I’ve been immersed in studying stones and their properties, paying
particular attention to the magical transformation that happens when stones are combined. Much like the

David Nau:

We’re pleased to have added David to our team. David is an award winning creative
designer who readily calls on the wide variety of experience he has gained in a
design career spanning over thirty years. His familiarity with the business allows
him to create a stunning design, but also one that works for the needs of the client.
The design has impact, and functions as needed for a successful event. Having
owned his own business, David maintains awareness of cost as he designs, assuring the most value
achieved within a budget.

A Graduate of Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY, David’s career has included positions as Senior Exhibit
Designer, Owner of an exhibit design company, Design Director, and Salesman. This variety of positions
has provided experience in all phases of the exhibit business; designing, quoting, selling, directly working
with clients, interfacing with builders and manufacturers, staging and supervising set-up.

David has worked closely with many key clients in the branding of their products and themselves in all
phases of marketing, both within and outside the tradeshow realm. He has designed tradeshow exhibits,
museum environments and showrooms for many large accounts including Kodak, Commerce One,
Candela Laser, The Holmes Group, Kendell Hospital Products, Enterasys, Stratus, Pfizer, Ligand
Medical, Polaroid, Welch Allyn, and Nortel. He has also designed museum and visitor centers for
Charlottesville, NASA Goddard, Hartford and Boston children’s museums.

David’s artistic eye has added to other aspects of our BioElectric Shield site and we appreciate his
ongoing contributions. David is currently unemployed and so has started going to trade shows with
Carolyn. For someone who has been designing trade shows for 35 years actually being in the booth he
designed is a whole new experience for him.
