ProductOverview
Designyourstairswithflexibilityandfreedominthemodelratherthaninadialogbox. Arangeofindividualcomponentsallowhighlyflexiblestairconfigurationsandaccommodateforbothresidentialand commercialstyles.Railingscanbelinkedtostairsorslabs,ormaybeplacedstandalonesothatstairseasilywindatvaried widthsandheightsandopenontolandings.Stairassembliescanbeedited,labelledandoutputasiftheywereasingle object.

ModelaStraightFlightStair
Inthistutorialwewillcreatea1000mmwide,straight,timberstairwitha1200mmlonglandinghalfwayup. FirstselectthePolystairToolfromtheToolBox.

NOTE:IfthePolystairtooldoesnotappearintheToolBox,youwillhavetoaddit.ThisprocessisoutlinedintheInstallation Extrasarticle. BeforemakinganychangestotheStairgeometry,withintheFloorPlanandSectiontabmakesuretheFloorPlanDisplay issettoShowonHomeStoryandoneStoryup.Thismeanswhenwegouptothestoryabove,thestairwillstillshow.

NowgototheCadimageStairComponentSettingstab,andwithinDimensionssettheStairWidthto1000,andsetthe TotalRiseheightto2700. NOTE:SettingtheRiseheightisnotessentialasitcanbeadjusteddymanicallyin3Dlatteron.

WithinStructureselecttheStructureimageandchangeittoTimberStringers,thenselecttheStringerimageandchangeit toSquare.

WithinTreads&RiserschangetheRisertypetoAngledRisers,thensettheGoingto300mm,Ihaveschosentolockthe goingdimensionsothatitisconsistentformyentirestairdothisbyclickingonthelockiconandchangeitfromanopen locktoalockedlock.

ClickOK,thenwithinyourPlanView(youcouldbein3Dalso)clickthestartpointofyourstair,thePloystairPetPaletewill popup,formthischooseyourflighttype,whichisstraightflight.Moveyourcursorinthedirectionyouwishthestairtogo, i.e.totheright,andtype2000intothetrackerandhitEnter.

Yournextstaircomponentisalanding,sofromthePetPalettechoosestraightlanding,andintothetrackertype1200,then Enter.

NextaddanotherpieceofstairbychoosingstraightflightfromthePerPalette,thentype2000intothetrackerandhitEnter. Tofinishthestair,clickonthenodeattheendofthestair.

Noticethatyounowhaveinfoboxesforeachflightcomponenttellingyouthegoingandtheriserheight.193mmistoohighfor ourrisers.

Tochangethis,selectthetopflight(youcouldalsoselectthebottomflight),choosethepinkhotspotattheendofthestair, anddragittotheright.Asyoudragyourmouse,noticethatanewriseris'hinted'tobeplacedevery300mm.(thisisbecause

welockedourgoingto300mm).Moveyoumousetotherightsothatjustoneextrariserwillbeplaced.

Nowtheriserheighthaschangedto180mmforallplacedflights.

Thestaircanbeviewedin3D.

Ifyouarehappywiththestair,youneedtoassembleit.Thisbasicallyconvertsthevariouscomponentsintoasingleobject, meaningifyouhavemanystairsplaced,theydonotslowdownyourviews. Toassembleyourstair,selectapieceofit(youdonotneedtoselectallthecomponents)andgotoCadimage>Stairs> AssembleStair.

InPlanViewyouwillseeabreaklineappear,thiscanbeselectedviathepinkhotspotatitscentreanddraggedalongtothe landing.

Therearemanymoresettingsforstairstructureandgeometryaswellashowthestairisrepresentedinyour2D documentation.PleaserefertotheStairComponentsectionoftheKnowledgeBase.

Inthistutorialwewillcreatea1200wide,concrete,'Ushaped'stair. FirstselectthePolystairToolfromtheToolBox.

NOTE:IfthePolystairToolisnotvisible,youwillneedtomakeitshow.ThisprocessisoutlinedintheInstallationExtras article. BeforemakinganychangestotheStairgeometry,withintheFloorPlanandSectiontabmakesuretheFloorPlanDisplay issettoShowonHomeStoryandoneStoryup.Thismeanswhenwegouptothestoryabove,thestairwillstillshow.

NowgototheCadimageStairComponentSettingstab,andwithinDimensionssettheStairWidthto1200,andsetthe TotalRiseheightto3000. NOTE:SettingtheRiseheightisnotessentialasitcanbeadjusteddymanicallyin3Dlatteron.

Alsobecausewedonotwanttoseethetimbertreads,gotoModel>SurfacesandchangeTreadsandRiserstomatch Structurei.e.SurfConcreteDark

ClickOK,thenwithinyourPlanView(youcouldbein3Dalso)clickthestartpointofyourstair,thePloystairPetPaletewill popup,fromthischooseyourflighttype,whichisstraightflight.Moveyourcursorinthedirectionyouwishthestairtogo, i.e.totheright,andtype2200intothetrackerandhitEnter.

Yournextstaircomponentisalanding,sofromthePetPalettechoosestraightlanding,thenmoveyourmouseinthe directionofthelanding(i.e.totheright)andtype1400intothetracker,thenEnter.Nextbitoflandingisup,somoveyour mouseup,andintothetrackertype2800,Enter,thenmoveyourmousetotheleftandtype1400,Enter.

NextaddyourfinalpieceofstairbychoosingstraightflightfromthePerPalette,thentype2200intothetrackerandhit Enter.Tofinishthestair,clickonthenodeattheendofthestair.

Ifyouarehappywiththestair,youneedtoassembleit.Thisbasicallyconvertsthevariouscomponentsintoasingleobject, meaningifyouhavemanystairsplaced,theydonotslowdownyourviews. Toassembleyourstair,selectapieceofit(youdonotneedtoselectallthecomponents)andgotoCadimage>Stairs> AssembleStair.

InPlanViewyouwillseeabreaklineappear,thiscanbeselectedviathepinkhotspotatitscentreanddraggedalongtothe middleofthelanding.
