LastFridayIcollaboratedtofacilitateaprofessionaldevelopmentopportunityforteachersaboutInnovativeClassrooms.Itwasan honortopresentwithatalentedrepresentativefromourdistrictlibrarymediaprogramwhoprovidedsupportformygrantwithher expertise.Shemadeconnectionswithnumerousvendorsandprovidedinputbasedonherexperienceintransforminglearning spaces.Thepresentationgavemeachancetodetailmyclassroomoverhaulandtalkwithmanyteachers.Areoccurring misconceptioncontinuedtoariseinregardtokindergarten,firstandsecondgradeteachers.Theyfeltthatinnovationand21stCentury craftandspacesmeanta"freeforall".Theywereunderthemisconceptionthatthisenvironmentwouldnotprovidestudentswith structureorthereadinginstructionrequiredatthislevel.Ifeltthatitwouldbebeneficialtodetailsomeofthestructuresinmy classroomandwhatlooksdramaticallydifferentfrommypastyears,andwhatdoesnot.Ihavebeencollectingtheseideasand philosophiesoverthepastweekswithsomecolleagues.Andhereisthecaveat:Itiseasierforprimaryteacherstomovetoward innovationandamoremodernclassroom.WehaveMANYofthecomponentsalready,andhaveforyears!
