C 2101/9/1 PLOT DRAWING

OBJECTIVES

General Objectives
Understanding terms and concepts related to plotting that makes the first plotting experience in AutoCAD easier.

Specific Objectives
At the end of the unit you will be able to: know the typical steps for plotting ; invoke and use the lot configuration dialog box ; select from available plotting devices and set the paper si!e and orientation ; specify what area of the drawing you want to plot ; preview the plot before creating a plotted drawing ; specify a scale for plotting a drawing ; know how to set up a drawing for plotting to a standard scale on the standard si!e sheet ; know how to configure plot devices in AutoCAD.

C 2101/9/2 PLOT DRAWING

INPUT
9.0 INTRODUCTION
lotting and printing are accomplished from within AutoCAD by invoking the lot command. Using the lot or rint command invokes the rint" lot Configuration dialog box. #ou have complete control of plotting and printing using the dialog box. $n AutoCAD% the term &plotting& can refer to plotting on a pen plotter and"or printing with a printer.

Assuming the CAD system has been properly configured so that the peripheral devices +plotters and"or printers, are functioning% the typical basic steps to printing and plotting using the rint" lot Configuration dialog box are listed below :

-. 0. 2. 3. 5. 6. 8. 9. (.

Use .ave to ensure the drawing has been saved in its most recent form before plotting +/ust in case some problem arise while plotting,. 1ake sure the plotter or printer is turned on% has paper and pens loaded% and is ready to accept the plot information from the computer. $nvoke the Print/Plot Configuration dialog box. Check the upper4left corner of the dialog box to ensure that the intended device has been selected. $f not% select the Device and Detect .election file and make the desired choice. Check the upper4right corner of the dialog box to ensure the desired paper si!e has been selected. $f not% use the Size... file to do so. 7nly when necessary% change other options such as Rotation and Origin and Assignments. Determine and select which area of the drawing to plot: Display, Extents, imit, !indo" or #ie". :nter the desired scale for the print or plot. $f no standard scale is needed% toggle Scaled to $it +so the check mark appears in the box,. Always review the plot to ensure the drawing will be printed or plotted as you expect. .elect either a $ull or Partial preview. $f the preview does not display the plot as you intended% make the appropriate changes. 7therwise% needless time and media could be wasted. $f everything is 7;% selecting the O% file causes the drawing to be sent to the plotter or printer.
