FABLE

EXT. LAKE. DAY A woman drags a young girl down a sandy bank by her hair to the side of a lake. YOUNG GIRL (screams) No! Please dont do this The woman raises her hand and slaps the girls face. The young girl falls to the ground. She pulls a glass swan out of the pocket of her nightdress, and kisses it. The woman glares at the young girl, smiles and her eyes turn a different colour. FADE TO BLACK. EXT. GARDEN. DAY KATHERINE walks up through a garden of trees to a house, with a box of cleaning products under her arm. She talks on the phone. KATHERINE Yes I know its cutting it fine, but its not like I can get out of it. Katherine trips and almost drops her box and phone. KATHERINE (Mutters) Damn it. KATHERINE No not you. Look Ive got to get this house sorted by Monday so I dont really have time to talk i just want to get it done and go. Katherine looks down at her phone to see that it is out of service. KATHERINE Typical. Katherine walks up to the already open doors of the house and takes a look inside. KATHERINE Hello?

INT. HOUSE. DAY Katherine walks in the house and places the box on the table. She stands in the middle of the room and sighs. She starts looking around the rest of the house and finds a wall of books. She drags her fingers along the spines of various books on the shelf. As she walks past, one book falls out behind her. Katherine turns to pick up the book and tries to open it, but it wont open. She shrugs and puts it down on a table and turns away. The sound of a creak makes her turn around, as the book opens by itself. Katherine turns slowly back to the book and picks it up. She starts reading the page tracing the words with her fingers. KATHERINE She arose from the water and walked into her human form, her natural state. AUTHOR Clad in her white night dress, now stained with years of neglect, she heads towards the only thing she remembers. EXT. LAKE. DUSK. The young girl walks up the bank away from the lake with wet hair and damp clothing, bare foot. A snap of a twig alerts her attention. She looks to the direction of the sound, and makes a piercing scream. As she starts to run a glass swan falls out of her dress and lands on the grass. A hand reaches down to pick it up. AUTHOR A Banshee. INT. HOUSE. DUSK. Katherine frowns at the book and bites her lip. Her phone goes off to signal she has a text. She sees how late it has got, and starts to rub her eyes. (O.S) Bang on the window. Katherine jump and drop the book on the floor. She walks toward the window and tries to peer out of it by cupping her hands against the glass.

EXT. IN THE BUSHES. DUSK. The wind whips the trees back and forth and the lights from the house light up the sky. INT. HOUSE. DUSK. Katherine turns back and shakes her head. She rubs her eyes again, but stops. She pulls her hands away from her face and stares down at them in a horrified expression. Katherine flips them over repeatedly, looking at all the words written in ink that shes covered in. Words from the book. She tries to rub the ink off but it does no good. She rushes out of the room. (O.S) Sound of running water The book lies open on the ground,a mans feet walk up to the book and bends down to pick it up. EXT. Field. DAY. A mans hand picks up the quill and starts to write in the pages of the note book. As he writes he reads the words aloud. AUTHOR I shouldnt have tricked HIM, he was as unmerciful as everyone had warned me, but in my youth I was foolish. The AUTHOR flips a coin and catches it in his hand. He smiles darkly and his eyes crinkle. He goes back to writing in the book. AUTHOR Bound to walk this earth alone. Its a lonely thought, but something I am not inclined too. Im never alone though. Not as long as I posses the will to write. He flicks through the pages and there is a drawing of a swan, a carved turnip, and the name Jack. He then closes the book and starts the carve the wood in his hand. The author gets up from the ground and walks across the field, until he comes to the front of a house. He bends down and places the carving of a person onto the porch, then walks away.

INT. HOUSE. DUSK. Katherine walks back into the room looking at her hands, checking that the inks gone. She looks at the book that is now open on the table. She stares at the book and walks slowly toward it.She stares at the book (O.S) Door Knocking Katherine jumps and turns away from the book. She walks out of the room. The open book has the words "The doorbell rings and Katherine goes to answer it on the page. EXT. OUTSIDE THE HOUSE. DUSK. Katherine opens the door and looks around. She bends down to pick something off the ground. She looks closely at the old carved person and frowns. FADES TO BLACK (O.S) The sound of a young girls scream. INT. ROOM. DUSK. The words "Im never alone." appear on the page of the book.
