Hi all, one of the 12's I recently got has a low memory.

The Garmin web site FAQ ad ises that the AA batteries sho!ld always be left in the !nit in order to "ee# the lithi!m memory battery charged. They go on to say that if it becomes discharged, to #!t fresh AA's in for $ days or so. This sho!ld correct matters % if not it's off to the ser ice agent. &ooo, not being able to hel# myself, tac"led my own 12 with a #oc"et "nife and a few min!tes later had it all o#en with no damage. The case is not #lastic welded b!t sim#ly sealed together with a ty#e of silicone. It wo!ld be '!ite a sim#le matter to re#lace the battery for anyone handy with a fine ti# soldering iron and common sense. (emo ing the r!bber stri# off the bac" is no hel#. It)s *!st a matter of scra#ing the silicone o!t of the *oint ga# and then #rising it a#art % b!t be caref!l not to #!t nic"s in the *oint edges. They won)t do any harm, they *!st loo" grotty. The memory battery is a +anasonic ,-122.. That)s their abbre iation for ,anadi!m -ithi!m 12mm diameter 2.2mm thic" I g!ess. The +anasonic info is at/ htt#/00www.#anasonic.com0ind!strial0battery0oem0chem0lith0 ana.htm 1ow, the ne2t thing is, where to b!y these cells3 Any ideas 1eill3 I ha e some #hotos b!t don't "now how to !#load them here. %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% %%%%%%% my garmin 122l loo"s com#letely sealed b!t it *!st has a band of soft silicon sealant aro!nd that *oin that r!ns its f!ll circ!mference. !sing a bl!nt screwdri er that abo!t fills the ga# 4 or some other scra#er with a face that is abo!t 1mm5 softly scra#e o!t all the silicon sealant from the entier circ!mference.now find another ob*ect at least 2.mm wide and 1mm thic" .#lace it in the end with the AA battery battery lid and twist it carf!lly."ee# trying at different #laces to crac" its seal. when yo! do #!t the small screwdri er in the crac" and twist again nearby with the wider ob*ect.remember to reseal with silicon and #!t a bit on that small rear mo!nting hole4on the inside5 that is co ered by the r!mmer stri# with garmin written on it, beca!se its not #ro#erly sealed by the r!bber.the battery in mine is named #anasonic 6( 2.72 8 7 olt with red and blac" welded wire leads on it.9

Also, the internal battery can be recharged. :ine gi es me the 9internal battery low9 message occasionally, es#ecially when stored for a while. I #l!g the !nit into 12 and let it r!n in sim mode for a few ho!rs to recharge the internal batt. Garmin recommends storing the !nit with fresh batts to "ee# the internal batt from discharging.
