the other members of this Board and the administrators of all the prison units in Arkansas." "Our prison officials continue to face tremendous challenges because of the dramatic growth in the inmate population we've witnessed in the past two decades. I will work with them to the best of my abilities on solutions to these long-term problems," Glover said. The Arkansas Department of Correction has 18 prisons that are scattered all over the state with over 4,100 employees that are responsible for more than 17,400-plus inmates incarcerated in the system, including approximately 2,700 inmates that are backed up in county jails. The annual budget for the ADC is about $316 million. Arkansas Community Correction has six centers where they house 1,546 residents. The agency's 1,307 employees also supervise more than 53,000 offenders on probation and parole. ACC has an annual budget of approximately $77 million. The Arkansas Correctional School System provides classrooms in twenty of the ADC and ACC facilities, and employs 90 teachers and staff. Approximately 800 inmates earn a GED credential every year. Riverside Vocational Technical School which is a part of the Correctional School System provides programs at 8 of the ADC facilities and 3 of the ACC facilities. As a member of the Arkansas Legislature Glover sponsored legislation that set up current laws on pardons and paroles, to strengthen the authority of prison officials to keep habitual offenders off the streets. Also, he was chairman of the Legislative Ad Hoc Committee on Pardons and Paroles that wrote the law. In his career has been director of governmental affairs for the Arkansas State Police Association. He currently serves on the Arkansas State Police Foundation Board. He served as chairman of the University of Arkansas Criminal Justice Institute Advisory Board. Also, he has been Executive Director of the Arkansas Municipal Police Association. As a Senator he served as Chairman of the Legislative Penal and Correctional Institutions Committee. "Again, I am extremely grateful to the Governor for my reappointment to the Arkansas Board of Corrections, and the confidence he has bestowed in me."

Bobby L. Glover Former State Senator Bobby L. Glover of Carlisle has been reappointed by Governor Mike Beebe to a new seven year term to the Arkansas Board of Corrections. The Board oversees the operations of the Arkansas Department of Correction (ADC), Arkansas Community Correction (ACC), and the Arkansas Correctional School System. Glover, a 28 year veteran of the legislature, left the Senate at the end of 2010 because of the term limits amendment to the state Constitution. Throughout his legislative career he has taken an active role in law enforcement issues. "I'm very grateful to Governor Beebe for this reappointment," Glover said. "I look forward to continuing my work with

New Bethel News

By Donna Kelly We enjoyed the beautiful weather although it was a little cool with the wind. We enjoyed services at church last week at the Revival. I just hope that everyone has a safe time as there are those who are traveling with school kids being this week is Spring Break. Our kids were over for dinner on Sunday, we always look forward to the time we share especially with the little ones. There have been several churches that have been in Revival meetings. Everyone is looking forward to Bible School this summer. There is a seminar Saturday for the purpose of getting things together for this event. I did visit friends at Chambers on Saturday afternoon. I have not been able to go for a while because I have had colds and the virus. I know that the farmers are on pins and needles wanting to get into their fields. It seems like we have a shower every day to keep them out of the fields. I had a phone call from Charlene Highfill on Sunday afternoon. We always have a nice visit. We attended church services Sunday evening at Bethlehem in DeValls Bluff where our grandson-in-law, Allen McElroy, brought the message. It was a very nice service. We wish everyone a good week. It is starting off that way with lots of sunshine.

Hazen bringing in the runners with 4-0 0 in conference play

The Hornets unleashed 36 runs through 15 innings of play last week in 3 games to extend their record to 7-2 overall and 4-0 in conference play. Their bats came to life midway through their game with the Sacred Heart Rebels on Thursday, and did not quit during the mercy rule that shortened games against their conference opponent Brinkley Tigers on Friday. The Hornets put up their fifth win of the season as they used an 8-run third inning to take a 10-3 victory over Sacred Heart in Morrilton last Thursday. Hornet senior pitcher Hunter Ingle put up his second win of the season by spreading 5 hits over 4 innings of work and giving up 2 earned runs while striking out 8 Rebel hitters. the Rebels took a 1-0 lead. The Rebels added a run in the bottom of the second as walks to the first two hitters combined with a sacrifice bunt and a dropped third strike gave the Rebels a 2-0 lead. A third run for the Rebels was averted by the Hornets when thirdbaseman Colby Rollins threw a rebel out at the plate on a fielders choice. The Hornets unleashed the bats in the top of the third to grab the lead and they would not surrender it. Junior second sacker Brenon Williams led things off with a single and a steal of second. Gage Johnson got the first Hornet RBI with a single to center that scored Williams. After stealing second, Johnson scored on a ground out to first off the bat of Kee to tie the double over the head of the Rebel left fielder to score Harrison and courtesy runner Sean Hall for runs 5 and 6. Williams reached on a on 21 hits. The first contest lasted 5 innings in which pitcher Brenon Williams surrendered 1 unearned run on 1 hit the rally. A bloop single to left and steal by Hornet second baseman Hunter Ingle put two in scoring position. Tenison drove in both Felts and Ingle when he knocked a double to left center to give the Hornets a 6-1 lead. The Hornets closed the game out with 5 runs in the bottom of the 5th to put the mercy rule in effect. Tenison hit his second double of the game on a line drive down the line to left. He advanced to 3rd on a ground out by 1st baseman Zach Dale. Rollins knocked in Tenison with a dying quail over the Tiger shortstop. After a walk to Williams, Rollins scored on an error on a fly ball off the bat of Johnson. With 2 in scoring position another looping Shortstop Sean Hall reached on an error by his Tiger counterpart that allowed both Rollins and Williams to score. The miscue gave the Hornets a 6-0 in the middle of one. The Hornets put up 5 more runs in the top of the 2nd. Ingle doubled to left center to begin the Hornet rally. Walks to VanHouten and Kee and Martin being hit by a pitch combined to allow courtesy runner Drake Ingle to score. Left fielder Lucas Tenison singled to center to plate both VanHouten and pinch runner Alundis Mosby. After Kee was cut down at home on a ground ball back to the pitcher, Williams stepped up with a single to left that drove in Tenison from 2nd. After a 10-

We appreciate any groups such as boy/girl scouts, teams, clubs, as well as singles who want to spend a couple of hours of their time to help. We are also looking for donations of hot dogs, buns and bottled water. Mustard, ketchup and relish will be provided. We could use a couple of grills and grill masters as well to heat dogs just right.
