Lucy Robbins 3-24-14 Math, 5 Have you ever seen a building that is completely circular?

The Guggenheim Museum is a very complex and original building. It is something that no one has ever seen before. The entire building it created around a circular staircase, that when you look up, it looks like it goes on forever. This seemed very compelling and interesting to research about and learn about the angles. It is a remarkable tourist attraction and has about 1,000,000 people that visit each year. Frank Lloyd Wright the architect of the Guggenheim not only had a vision of this incredible building, but also made it come to life. The Guggenheim Museum was opened on October 21, 1959. This opening day was 6 months before his tragic death. To get the design of the building that Frank truly wanted, it took him over 749 sketches and 16 years to build. It took 3 million dollars to assemble. The outside of the museum was first created and structured with gunite and a mixture of sand and cement, which they sprayed onto the inside of the frame. Frank Lloyd Wrights Guggenheim museum is one of the 20th centuries greatest architectures and its as famous a building as the art it holds. At the time there were only two common models for museum design, either the beaux-arts palace style or the international style pavilion. Frank wanted to create an original but personal building. It is said that the Guggenheim was one of his most important building he has ever created. He wanted to create a museum that would catch peoples eyes. He wanted to create not only a new design but one that people are drawn too. Frank Lloyd wright used tons of geometric shapes because he believed that each shape had a meaning. For example, he considered that a circle meant infinity so that is why he created the museum in a circular structure. He also though that triangles meant stability. Frank believed that geometry was, the basic building block of nature(Frey). The Guggenheim Museum was made out of 700 tons of steel and 7,000 cubic feet of poured concrete. The building is completely designed from triangles, ovals, arcs, circles and squares. In conclusion, the Guggenheim is a very different and amusing museum to look at. From inside and out everything is very elaborate in its on ways. Though Frank Lloyd Wright had a different vision for the future, he really captured what he wanted. Frank Lloyd Wright is very inspiring because he has taught people through his buildings to be different.
