GENERAL SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION


4Be aware that the number of scholarship applications greatly
exceeds the grants available and that the competition for scholarships is very tough.

4 Scholarship recipients commit themselves to taking a full study

4The amount of the awarded scholarship is non-negotiable and


cannot be increased at a later point. Therefore, it is the recipients responsibility to evaluate if she/he can afford participation at the ISS after reviewing the costs involved and given scholarship amount.

The International Summer School has a limited number of full scholarships. Please indicate your scholarship needs:

I NEED THE SCHOLARSHIP TO COVER: ADDITIONAL COURSE FEES Travel Costs: Value: 1,500 NOK 11,000 NOK (depending on the cost of airfare) Scholarship recipients who receive travel grants will have their travel arrangements made by the ISS Office. Travel grants are never paid out in cash and do not cover airport tax or visa charges. Typically, the travel grant covers plane tickets to/from Oslo and your nearest international airport. Personal Allowance: Value: 3,000 NOK Applicants can also be awarded pocket money (3,000 NOK) to cover personal expenses such as books, laundry, metro cards. The allowance is received as a gift card upon arrival to the ISS. I NEED THE SCHOLARSHIP TO COVER: POCKET MONEY

NB! If you are awarded a partial scholarship, you must pay the sum stated above in order for you admission to be complete. 2014 Application Form


The APPLICATION DEADLINE is FEBRUARY 1, 2014. Applications must be postmarked no later than this date. Applications from self-paying applicants after this date will be considered as space permits. The International Summer School is under no obligation to process late and/or incomplete applications.

Application Checklist
An application is not considered complete until all necessary documents are submitted. If some documents are not available before the deadline, make a note in the application form and send them later. Submit the application documents in the order listed underneath. DO NOT staple your documents together. I have included 2 passport-sized photos with my application
Paperclip them to the application form (in field 1.14.). Remember to write your name on the back of the photos.

I have included a statement of purpose


Write a statement of purpose of 1 page (maximum 500 words) to introduce yourself and state why you wish to study at the ISS. Applicants for Norwegian language levels 3 & 4 should write the statement in Norwegian.

I have included 2 letters of recommendation


Recommendations should be written by someone not related to you by blood or marriage and must include contact information to the reference person. The recommendation must provide information about your academic abilities, character and seriousness of purpose. Letters of recommendation are not required for Norwegian language course applicants.

I have included documentation of my English language skills

Ways of meeting the English language requirements are mentioned on our website www.uio.no/english/studies/summerschool/admission/requirements/english NOTE: Norwegian language students must send specific English language documents. I have included documentation of my Norwegian language skills


Only for applicants to Norwegian language levels 2, 3 or 4. Documentation may be transcripts of courses taken, test scores (Bergenstest/Sprkprven), or a letter from your teacher.

The transcript/diploma must be submitted in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian or Scandinavian languages, or translated into one of these languages. You must send in academic documents starting from your secondary school and onwards. You may be asked to present originals of your academic credentials at a later time. The ISS reserve the right to revoke your admission if you fail to comply to the request.

3.2. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SEMINAR (PDS) is an afternoon seminar that students may sign up for at an extra cost, which has six sessions during the Summer School. I want to sign up for the Professional Development Seminar (cost of NOK 600/USD 110)
For scholarship recipients whose scholarships include the NOK 3,000 pocket money allowance, the seminar fee will be deducted from this allowance. The PDS seminar fee is non-refundable after June 1, 2014 even if you decide to drop the course.
