Lesson #2: Cause and Effect Ms.

Perna Subject: Reading: Comprehension: Cause and effect Objectives: In a video, I will explore the definitions of Cause and effect explaining how Effect is what happened and Cause is why it happened. During the video, I will act out Cause and effect by showing what happens when books are pushed, what happens and how they are that way ( identifying the cause and its corresponding Effect). In conclusion, I will give my own example of cause and effect based off a real situation. (Students will then come up with their own cause and effect from the example given). Materials: Introductory Video (speaking about the definition of Cause outcome and the Effect what happened) Assessment worksheet (pictures: C or E for cause and Effect) Video of Itsy, Bitsy, Spider Worksheet (cut and paste cause and effect) Directions: 1. Students are to watch a video about The tsy bitsy Spider and while watching, students will keep in thought what are some examples of cause and effect. 2. After the Story is over, the students will complete a worksheet by cutting out the pieces and gluing them to their corresponding cause or effect. (Test understanding of the definition between cause and effect). 3. Students will take a piece of paper and draw a picture using cause and effect in their lives. As students are finished drawing each picture, the student will review writing their letters by writing C for Cause and E for Effect. a. Ex: I pushed my sister ( cause), I got time out ( Effect) 4. Students will then connect with the definitions of cause and effect by mixing colored paint with Curious George. (Shows a real situation where cause and effect would be used). Students will be reviewing colors and practicing cause and effect by painting a picture creating new colors using the colors provided. Ex: blue and white ( cause) and light blue ( Effect) 5. Students draw a line from the picture of a cause to the corresponding picture (Effect). [Assesses the students ability to select the cause and effect from specific scenarios].
