With the recent cuts in education funding, the arts programs have been hit the hardest. Hence, the visual and performing arts budgets have suffered. Arts education improves focus and encourages teamwork while also motivating students by giving them a goal to passionately pursue. Visual and performing arts programs help prevent school dropouts. In doing so, they have become as important as the traditional academic education programs. The AT&T Revive the Arts program, as its name suggests seeks out to revive the visual and performing arts programs in the Dallas ISD. With the Revive the Arts, AT&T will assist with providing funds for schools with which they can revitalize their visual and performing arts programs. It is our hope that with this aid, visual and performing arts will receive more emphasis in schools throughout Dallas and the country. The Revive the Arts event will consist of a banquet followed by a concert and auction. Our goal is to first raise funds for schools and secondly to feature the diverse forms of arts found in Dallas. We highlight culinary arts, by having delicacies catered by celebrity chef Wolfgang Pucks Five Sixty. With an auction of masterpieces by renowned artists in Dallas and a performance by The Dallas Symphony Orchestra, we focus on nourishing arts in every way for upcoming generations. With this event, we will be able to simultaneously give back to Dallas by supporting the arts program and to provide entertainment for the Dallas elite, the people for whom this event is aimed at. There could not be a better way to give back to society, than to encourage innovation in the new generation.

Chamber of Commerce Goal The Chamber of Commerce was formed in 1909 and since then they have been working on making the Dallas region become the most economically prosperous region in the United States. They work to make it the most desirable place to live and work at. Through different channels they help businesses to connect with other regional leaders. They have councils and committees that meet throughout the year to lead the initiatives; they offer leadership development programs, and they also help through networking and offering awards that recognize outstanding leaders within businesses. The Chamber of Commerce would like to see a business create a flagship program or event that will show social responsibility and community engagement within the Dallas Area. The program or event has to address a social need that is specific to the Dallas community, it has to highlight the partnership of business and the community and allow participation by both business leaders and residents. It will be highly recommended for the program or event to not place an unreasonable financial burden on the Chamber.

will help more students graduate from high school ready for careers and college to ensure the country is better prepared to meet global competition.

Our Social Cause Ever since 2011 when budgets got cut in schools, art programs have been the first to suffer. The Texas House and Senate settled on about $4 billion worth of cuts to public education that included slashing arts education, pre-kindergarten programs and teacher incentive pay. The Dallas school districts started with slashing about $77 million for that school years budget and since then, schools began cutting staff in the art programs in order to be able to supply equipment necessary for these programs. The event that we have created will raise money to buy supplies for ten high schools, ensuring that they meet the criteria, in the Dallas district. The arts are an indispensable tool for building the creative thinking skills that are essential in ensuring that American business and culture will prosper. Our main focus will be on high schools in Dallas. The teenage years are a critical point in a young adults life that will define them based on the different activities that they are exposed. Studies conducted by the Center for Arts Education have proven that there is a connection between art education and graduation rates. They found that the schools with the most access to art education also had the highest graduation rates. The study claimed that the schools that offered their students little or no art education had the greatest dropout rates. Being how the Chamber of Commerce is already working on increasing the graduation rate, this will be the perfect event for them to be a part of. With their help we can give the individual the power to innovate and think outside the norm.

Goals All money raised through the event will be given to ten high schools in the Dallas ISD. These schools will need to prove that they are in need of this money by filling out the grant application. With the help from the Dallas Chamber of Commerce we will review all applications and decide on which ten schools qualify for the additional help. The money awarded will be used to buy supplies for the different art classes, ie. instruments for band, art supplies for visual art classes, and wardrobe/makeup for performing art classes.

The Revive the Arts event will primarily cater to the Dallas elite. The event will take place on Saturday, September 21st at the AT&T Performing Arts Center and ticket pricing will vary from $150 per person for large groups to $200 for individuals. Our event consists of three parts: a live concert in the main hall, banquet in the lobby, and the auction in the private room. The doors will open at 5:00 pm so that people can get situated for the concert to begin at 6:00 pm. During this transitional period cocktails and hors doeuvres will be served. The concert will be 45 minutes long and after the performance we will the banquet in the lobby at approximately 7:00 pm. We will then end the evening with the auction at 8:30.

Music/Performance Our entertainment will be provided by The Dallas Symphony Orchestra (DSO). They have been around since the 1900s and their primary goal is to entertain, inspire and change lives through musical excellence. Having such an act perform at this event will show the possibilities that could arise from nurturing creative minds at an early stage of adulthood. For this event, 30 members from the total orchestra will be performing. The orchestra will be primarily composed of violins, violas, cellos and a piano/organ. They will play 5 pieces of music chosen by the DSO music director Jaap van Zweden. The pieces will consist of the baroque, classical, and romantic musical eras. The total length of time that the orchestra will play is about 45 minutes.

Food Revive the Arts will be catered by celebrity chef Wolfgang Pucks restaurant, Five Sixty. Opened in 2009, Five Sixty is located 560 feet off the ground in Reunion Tower in downtown Dallas. Five Sixty is known as one of the top restaurants in the Dallas area and is specifically known for its award winning Asian inspired cuisine and with wine selections of 400 labels. Other than the food, the restaurant has been recognized for its design and extraordinary view. The restaurant gives you a 360 rotating view of Dallas. At this auction, we will be offering a three course meal to all the attendees of our event. They will choose one item from each of the three categories and a drink. A detailed menu is available in the appendix Auction The last part is the auction which will be held in one of the private rooms. As the city with the sixth highest artist population, Dallas has a wide variety of styles. This diversity in styles will be reflected in our auction line up that consist of art ranging from contemporary sculptures and photographs to more classically themed oil paintings and portraits. Some featured artists are Helen Altman, Anna Rose, Dawn Waters Baker, Tempy Berg-Gilbert, and Lou Ann Bower. Each of these artists along with some others has agreed to donate 2-3 pieces for our auction. Although we have managed to acquire multiple pieces of art, we would like some help from the Chamber of Commerce in order to acquire the full 25 pieces. With the help of the Chamber we will be able to acquire higher quality pieces which in turn will lead to higher revenues from the auction.

Tentative Art Line Up: 5 artwork pieces at starting point of $5,000 10 Pieces at starting point $2,000 10 Pieces at starting point of $500

100% of the revenue raised during the Revive the Arts event will be donated to Dallas ISD in the form of a grant from which schools in need can draw funds in order to continue their visual and performing arts programs. Following our auction, AT&T will make the grant application available for the Dallas area high schools. The schools will follow all guidelines required and submit the application on our website. The applications have to be submitted by a certain date in order for the school to use any of the funds for their academic program. Each application is subject to approval by the Chamber. Once all the applications have been reviewed, the Chamber will decide which schools are in need of this money and once approved, a grant will be given to the school in the form of a check.

Chamber Involvement In order for Revive the Arts to take place, we require help from the Chamber of Commerce in several ways. First and most importantly we require help from the Chamber with raising money in order to pay for the event. For this event AT&T has promised to donate $100,000. However, in order for the event to take place we still require about $15,125. We would also need help from the Chamber in advertising our event. We plan on advertising our event mainly through mailing invitations. It would be extremely beneficial to the event if the Chamber were to mail a majority of our invitations to their constituents. Also, as previously stated, we need the Chambers help in acquiring art pieces for the auction. We have acquired a majority of the artwork, but we still need about 5 big impact pieces. With the help of the Chamber we hope to secure artworks from more famous artists in order to achieve our maximum fundraising capability in the auction. Lastly we ask that the Chamber helps us choose which ten schools will receive grants. We hope that a committee composed of both AT&T and Chamber members can work together on this goal.

Split Cost for Revive the Arts

20% AT&T 80% Chamber of Commerce

The stage hand labor for the concert will be provided by the Performing Arts Center, including the custodial labor. This staff will handle the lighting and sound, and help set up for the event as well. We will be paying an additional fee for an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) as well, in case there is a need for an emergency medical service. We will have volunteers from AT&T who will be helping out with the event, including serving the food and drinks, and ushering the guests. Attendance and Admissions Attendance: We are expecting to see at least 2000 people out of the 2200 people the venue can seat. The target audiences, who are expected to attend the conference, are not only executives of AT&T but also the various connections of the Dallas Chamber of Commerce. The audience would also include employees of other companies and retired executives. Admissions: People will be able to purchase their tickets online on the Performing Arts Center website. The guests who purchase their tickets first, will get their seats for the concert closer to the stage. Sponsored Tables: There will be 125 tables for sponsors/companies to buy. Each table would seat 8 people. $1200/table, i.e. $150/person. These would be the most discounted tickets, hence, we bank on the Dallas Chamber of Commerce to sell or donate at least 60 of them. Companies will receive special corporate invites and programs with contact information, in case of any special requests. Couples and Individual Tickets: It is not necessary to be a part of a corporation to be able to attend this event. So we have tickets priced at $350/couple, i.e. $175/person. Individual tickets are sold for $200/person to attend the event All attendees will also receive detailed invitations with the program after purchasing their tickets. Attire: We would require guests to come in business casual attire, since there would be a lot of people representing the corporate world. This would serve as a great networking opportunity for many as well.

Dear Sir or Madam, Hi my name is Pedro Smith. Im writing on behalf of the Emergency Artists Support League (EASL) to recommend the AT&T Revive the Arts project for approval. EASL has had the pleasure of working with AT&T on charity events in the past, and we were impressed with the success of our partnership. As such, it is our pleasure to recommend them. For many years now AT&T has shown that they care about the community and are committed to improving it. Their engagement is most clearly exemplified by the Aspire program which emphasizes on the education of the communitys youth. To be more specific, the Aspire program is centered on keeping kids in school and preparing them for college and careers. According to a report by Civic Enterprises and other related groups the work done by Aspire and other similar programs has had a huge impact, decreasing the high school dropout rate by 29% in the last ten years. With this in mind, we expect that the Revive the Arts project will further extend and prolong that influence. Due to the tremendous success, we believe that it is imperative to continue to provide support for teen education programs. Approval of the Revive the Arts project will be a huge triumph which will impact the lives of many students. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at the above address or email us at info@easl.us

Sincerely,

Pedro Smith Senior Director of Community Development Email: pedro.smith@easl.us Cell: 1.888.563.2316

To whom it may concern, AT&T has been one of the most generous benefactors to our cause. Through their Revival of the Arts initiative, I believe that a giant step will be made toward allowing every child in the DISD school district to have the arts experience that helps shape and develop their creativity. The Revival of the Arts initiative helps put back more emphasis on the arts programs in school, something that has been lost over the years. Arts programs help shape kids by expressing creativity into the adult they will become. It also is important to help encourage innovation, something that our society has been lacking. By issuing this grant to the Dallas School District, it will directly help both of these problems. We recommend that the Revival of the Arts be supported by the Dallas Chamber of Commerce. If you have any questions regarding AT&T and the Revival of the Arts feel free to contact me. Sincerely,

Bob Jones Vice President of Programs B_jones@afof.com

AT&T partnered with other companies to host a similar event in 2011 that helped in raising money for art programs for Middle Schools. Having already done such an event in the past with successful results should be enough reason for the Chamber to consider making this year's event possible. Background On September 24 of 2011, AT&T hosted a fair in the national park of Dallas that saw artists of different backgrounds get together to raise money for schools. There were bakers, decorators, painters, sculptors, etc. that volunteered at the event and sold their form of art. The event was catering to the general public and an entrance fee of $20 was charged at the door. The proceeds from the entrance fee helped in covering expenses to make this event happen. 10% of the sale of the artists' craft was donated to help raise money for the schools as well. The fair was aimed at raising money for Middle schools in Dallas because they were in need of supplies to keep art programs going strong. In the recent years they had been experiencing budget cuts which saw cutting into the different art programs. The curriculum was being changed to have fewer hours of Art courses because of the cost to keep these classes going. Outcome The end result was of great success. Through the fair, middle schools in Dallas had money to help supply for arts programs. The school district also stopped all plans of modifying the curriculum in favor of having less art courses. Due to the great success of the fair, more companies volunteered for the event the following year. Not only were more businesses involved but artists started donating their artwork so that more funding goes into the money being raised.
