Dining Night

Meeting 786 - 03 Apr 14

It has been a couple of weeks since we have had our regular meeting and last week was no different. Thu was the Dinner Meeting held at The Jerra in place of the Mystery Tour due to forecast bad weather. A very enjoyable night was had by all and the food and company were up to their usual high standard. Just see for yourself!

Aww. BFFs

Rob will be jealous!

You are getting sleepy..

You are enjoying yourself Sue.

Mr and Mrs Pres, along with Paul Robey, went along to the Queanbeyan Renal Unit and assisted with planting what else but plants! Not too much elbow grease seemed to be needed, however a job well done by all. Sue took the attached photos. The planting took less than an hour, and the rain held off while they did it. Pictures show the two Pauls hard at work and some of the QW Rotarians working hard. Roxanne (manager of the Unit) was there to help as well. We are planning an official plaque unveiling lunch on Easter Sunday, for those that are in town and can attend. More info to follow in coming weeks.

These are the plants..

You put them in the ground like this..

and this

Is this our best side?

You put your right foot in

Take the photo our beer is getting warm!!!

We have an update from Paul Robey for the program: Next week on 10 April we are expecting to receive a visit from the organisers of the Music Festival, who hope to have our Club assist with the catering. The intention is for them to outline to scope of the catering requirement and discuss with us our prospects of providing food for the event. You may recall Anton Pemmer raising this issue several months ago. On 17 April we will have Martin Fisk CEO Menslink, an organization which supports young men across our region in three ways: 1. Encouraging them to speak up and get help, or to encourage their mates to get help, through educational sessions in schools and other community groups; 2. Providing intensive but short-term counselling to help them get through stressful life events with the least amount of harm to themselves or those around them; and 3. Longer term mentoring support from positive male role models, especially for your guys who are socially isolated or for the 17% of all young men who no longer live with their father.

Our own Peter Jarvis had a very special celebration night on Sat thanks to his beautiful wife Sue and family and friends who attended Peter's 70th birthday celebration.

Farmers Market Corner:

From the Pen ofGlenda Wahlerts Wet, Wet, Wet Most of the morning it was raining, however it didn't keep the customers away. Glenn and Bruce braved the wet weather and took turns to do the parking while I manned the table (I'm not stupid). Bruce also rode his bike to the markets in the wet weather . Took him 1 hour. How good is that. A credit card and purse were handed in. The credit card was collected but not the purse. A lady had bought two of our bags awhile ago and apparently the handles had broken off when she was at the market this morning. Not sure if this is a one off or if it's happened before. I replaced them for her. Thanks to the person who arranged to have a map of Epic at our table. We had people trying to locate the Baby show and a Rocks show and the map came in handy. Thankyou, Glenda

OUR HISTORY
In 1998 the Rotary Clubs of Queanbeyan and Queanbeyan West Rotary decided to sponsor a new Rotary Club based in Jerrabomberra. Bill Lilley, John Snedden and Peter Jarvis from Queanbeyan West took on the joint roll of mentor (Peter Jarvis went on to become our Charter President). Advertising for potential members began in March 1998. After a successful campaign, the Club was chartered on 18 November 1998 with 20 members. We are an unusual club as we have a very high proportion of female Members. Initial meetings were held at the Jerrabomberra General Storethe venue was very good until we grew in numbers. We then moved to the Jerrabomberra Community Centre for a few years. We now meet at the Jerrabomberra Public School Staff Room, on Thursdays (6.15 for 6.30 pm). As at 26 Jan 2014 the Club has 26 members 11 female and 15 male. Included in this are seven married couples. We also have 4 supporters of the Rotary Club. (Charter) President Peter Jarvis ran competitions to select a name for our Club bulletin and a design for the Club banner. There were some good and (very) bad suggestions. Pam Spencer suggested the winning bulletin name; Jerraganda. The banner design by David Stevens was eventually selected. The design incorporates a goose and the windmill associated with the original entrance to the estate.
