Open Forum, An Evening with Prilly and the Purple Hairs, Window On Italy, Insights, Deep Dish TV, The Dribble
Series, Timmy Rider, So Much To Say, Depression Workshop, Standup Poetry, Talk Around Town, Moonfleet, Sally
Epstein… Maybe it’s my age or my sensitivity, but I’m feeling a bit melancholy just thinking about the past programs
and the individuals that have been such an integral part of BATV’s history.
Just last week, BATV began the process of returning archived programming from 2005 & 2006; a task that
now seems relatively simple! While I have yet to view program titles that will be returned, I am looking forward to the
process with anticipation.
During the past six months, staff has been discussing the submission of programming by electronic distribution
(via the internet) in an attempt to be ahead of the curve in setting policy for such. While it will prove to be an efficient
means for distribution, I contemplate, for selfish reasons, the lack of physical interaction and emotionless mechanics, but
it is the way of the future, and the future will provide for many opportunities and yes, memories.
On behalf of BATV, thank you for presenting the Billerica community with countless hours of programming.
On a more personal note, thank you for providing me with so many fond memories. And lastly, thank you Alex and
Tom!

Technology at BATV
It’s starting to get busy around here and a lot of technology improvements are about to
break through at BATV. What better time to release these great new features than right now,
during the best time of year, the fall. So what technology am I talking about? Well web site
changes for one. I know I’ve been gearing you up for this upgrade and it’s almost here. BATV

will be implementing a Drupal based web site which will allow us to be more interactive with the
membership and the rest of the Billerica community. With the release of the new web site, you
can also expect a “BATV in your e-mail” introducing the new site. If you haven’t signed up for
the “BATV In your e-mail” go to our web site at www.batvinc.org or e-mail me at jbazinet.batv@
comcast.net with your name and e-mail address and I’ll add you to the list. After the web site
introduction e-mail issue, you can expect e-mail on a more regular basis.
Notes from the Access Coordinator

Also, if you are a producer and are interested in having a “producer web page” on our site
please let me know. I have heard from a few producers so far, and don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten
about you. Once the new website is released, I will be able to generate a producer page for you. My
hope is that in time, a producer will be able to log in and make updates to your page to keep it as
current and relevant as possible.
So we have many things to look forward to in the very near future; perhaps it is already in
transition as you are reading this newsletter. If you have any questions or comments please e-mail

Some notes from the Programming Coordinator:

Greetings everyone, I hope the swiftly fleeting summer has satisfactorily satiated everyone’s
need for fun and sun. I hope you all got out to surf and turf and photosynthesize. To swim
with the fishes; run with wild horses; soar with the eagles; to stand on the tallest peak and
roar “Long Live BATV!” for this is what the summer is all about. But all good things must
inevitably come to a halt, for now. The UVB has subsided and we can step off our banana boats.
We have already consumed the blighted tomatoes our gardens have birthed and are hungry for
more, BATV.

Now as I sadly pack away my fins and snorkel in favor of flannel jammies and long underwear,
I look forward! There’s no reason to get down or feel blue while such good things lie ahead.

(stay tuned for more info) and we are planning another BATV is Haunted (witch cackle plays

Programming

For those who enjoy getting a bad case of the creeps, on Halloween night BATV Channel
8 will be airing nothing but old horror movies from dusk till dawn. The films played will be
“family friendly” and in the public domain but that doesn’t mean your hair won’t turn white
with fear! Why, I’m so terrified assembling this blood curdling extravaganza that I can’t wait
to show everyone. In the immortal words of Alice Cooper; “Welcome to my nightmare!” So
don’t give in to corporate media this Halloween, stay with us and we shan’t disappoint. Nothing
is worse than Halloween on a school night, except for getting a box of raisins while trick-or-
treating. However, Halloween is on Saturday night this year therefore it’s your duty to stay up
all night long! So put on your 3D glasses (they will do nothing) and watch the Dusk till Dawn
Monsterpiece if you dare…

Now that I’ve run out of ham, I will change the subject… Occasionally I get asked, “I saw
something old and weird on BATV, what was that?” These “old and weird” programs most
likely came from archive.org. No, you don’t have Déjà vu because, yes, I have wrote about
Internet Archive before. In any case, I bring it up again because not only are there old and weird
things on there (my favorite) but I believe it to be an excellent research tool for historical and
modern media. So check it out, you may find some hidden media treasures. The following was
taken from IA’s website,

“The Internet Archive is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that was founded to build an Internet library.
Its purposes include offering permanent access for researchers, historians, scholars, people
with disabilities, and the general public to historical collections that exist in digital format.
Founded in 1996 and located in the Presidio of San Francisco, the Archive has been receiving
data donations from Alexa Internet and others. In late 1999, the organization started to grow to
include more well-rounded collections. Now the Internet Archive includes texts, audio, moving
images, and software as well as archived web pages in our collections, and is working to provide
specialized services relating to training, education, or adaptive reading or information access
needs of blind or other persons with disabilities.” How ‘bout that!

As always, I am your Programming Coordinator. Please feel free to be in touch with any
questions, concerns, comments about programming.
