MC: Have you picked up our online survival guide yet' (et prepped or the uture o online marketing by going to www.aybguide.com. Andrew McCauley: Hey everybody, this is Andrew )c*auley. +elcome to podcast number ,-. ,- podcasts and we are talking about podcasting. Are you podcasting' Are you doing anything with podcasts' Are you even thinking about podcasts' Today, .oined all the way rom sunny Sydney, Heather #orter. Hey, H/ Heather Porter: Hello Andrew/ Hello everybody/ & wish & could say it was sunny, but it!s hot. Andrew McCauley: Hot and cloudy Sydney. Heather Porter: Ah, Sydney, humid. Anyway, but no, & love that this is the episode we!re doing because there!s 0uite a bu11 around it. &!m seeing it in all the people!s blogs and websites 2 why podcasting is so ama1ing 2 and we!re going to take a little bit o a di erent spin on it and actually share with you guys the bene its that we have gotten rom our podcast because we think it!s going to not only surprise you but also probably really get you e"cited about the potential o having your own show. So3 Hey, Andrew, & have a 0uestion or you. Andrew McCauley: 4h, let me guess. Do & like podcasting' Heather Porter: Uh, yep3 5o. +hat did you learn' Andrew McCauley: +hat did & learn this week' $ou know, & was playing around on 6acebook actually the other day and something is about to come out which &!m really happy about, and that is the act that, i you have a page 2 a business page or a an page, same thing 2 and you have a number o people that are admins to that page. 7ike, we manage pages or other people so we!re an admin or their page. They have their own sta who run those pages as well and, you know, sometimes there!ll be something posted and no one knows who posted it. 8+ho!s responsible' +ho!s responsible'9 So, 6acebook are rolling out the act that you!ll be able to see which admin posted which post. So, i anyone posts something dodgy, or something that wasn!t supposed to happen, or i somebody posted a really good post and you want to reward them,

then you will be able to ind out e"actly who that person is. So, rolling that out across the board or 6acebook pretty soon. So, that!s what & learned this week and &!m e"cited about it because, as & said, we o ten have many people involved with a page and sometimes we have a marketing plan and a strategy around what we!re trying to post, and somebody decides to come out o nowhere and post something, we!re like, 8+hoa/ +hat happened there'9 So, now we can ind out who it was. So, that!s what & learned this week. Heather Porter: 6rom a training perspective, how cool is that' %ecause, like, as you grow 0uickly as a business and you!re having di erent people helping with your marketing, it helps you .ust tighten up i you know that you!ve trained your team well as well. Andrew McCauley: :"actly, e"actly. 5ow, what about you, Heather #orter' +hat did you learn this week' Heather Porter: +ell, we have .ust done our second episode o )ake &t Simple T;. Andrew McCauley: +e have. Heather Porter: And we did that yesterday which is really cool. This is our new (oogle Hangouts where we!re having a chat with our inner circle o contacts all over the world and we did a great little interview with a guy named Dave Diggle who works with elite athletes with their mindset and per ormance, and he brought something which is really cool which is a bit o a theme or our week 2 & guess, our week as well as we!re growing our business 2 and he said that it!s so incredibly important to have a resh set o eyes on what you!re doing in your business because you get so trapped into your own sort o systems and day<to<day on the rat race and, you know, the hamster wheel and & have to put out ires. 8& want to be proactive but & can!t/ & have to put out ires/9 and you!re sitting there, you almost get into a habit o how you!re operating your business. And what & love that he said is that, you know, get somebody who!s an e"pert, get somebody that can sit there and look neutrally at what!s going on and give you suggestions. =ust like an athlete. +ell<known athletes and athletes on the rise get a coach because they can!t see their own blind spot. A business owner should have somebody as well. So, Andrew, we!re really e"cited because we!ve been looking at sort o a new head o operations or our business and that!s the idea is that we get somebody that comes in that can see the broken bits, and also the good bits, and help us go to the ne"t level. Andrew McCauley: $es, very good. So, it!s good to, you know, re ocus. %oth you and & have got some resh energy around that sort o thing, too. Heather Porter: $eah. Andrew McCauley: %ecause it!s like, 8+ow/ 5ow we!ve got someone who can take that ball and run with it, and get to where we want to get to, and help us get there 0uicker than we would .ust doing it by ourselves.9

Heather Porter: & think the thing is you .ust can never be too precious about yoursel and your own business. $ou!ve really got to say, 8&t!s a business/ That!s all it is. &t!s not me as a human being but, rom a business perspective, .ust tear me apart. $ou know, tell me where my weaknesses are,9 and you need to be willing to do that as well so you!re really listening to eedback, too. Andrew McCauley: $eah, you!re willing to accept the eedback, too. Heather Porter: $eah, absolutely. Andrew McCauley: *ool. So, today we!re going to be talking about podcasting. 5ow, we!ve done ,, episodes. This is our ,- th episode. 7et me ask you o the bat without even warning you about this 0uestion. +hat have you en.oyed about doing podcasting' Heather Porter: $ou know what & like' & like that it is an intimate, un way o connecting with the very person right now that is listening at the end o the line. +ith writing, you can!t get that connection and & think video is cool too but video!s more you!re .ust watching it on your computer. & think podcasting is a really intimate thing. &t!s where people are cooking dinner and listening to you, or they!re in the commute or whatever it is. & eel like, with podcasting, you and & have been able to really reach out to people in a way we!ve never been able to be ore. Andrew McCauley: $es. $ou know, that!s another thing too. & like that people are doing all sorts o things. There!s probably somebody sitting on a train right now. Heather Porter: $eah, e"actly. Andrew McCauley: $es, you, sitting on the train. $es, &!m talking to you. & want you to look at that person .ust in ront o you and give them a smile. Heather Porter: )aybe it!s the person with the Siri<enabled car that said, 8Siri, put on Autopilot $our %usiness #odcast.9 Andrew McCauley: $es, or someone!s on a plane going rom one place to another and they are listening to us on a plane. Heather Porter: & know/ Andrew McCauley: Hey, hit that *all button and order yoursel a drink right now. (o and do it. Do it. %ut you!re right; we get eedback all other rom people saying, 84h, & listen to it in the car when & travel,9 8& listen to it on a Sunday morning when &!m sitting on the couch,9 sort o thing. &t!s ascinating to ind people!s listening habits at these sort o things too so & think that!s been one o the great things 2 .ust getting eedback rom all over the place about people listening to us and saying, 84h, yeah, we heard your podcast. +e love it/9 and that sort o thing. So, that!s really, really good that we!re giving in ormation that people are en.oying. Heather Porter: &t is, and you know what else &!ve en.oyed as well' The act that we!ve actually gotten work rom doing this show. +e!ve had people actually seek us

out and pursue us. They!ve used this show as almost like a test to see i you and & really know what we!re talking about. Andrew McCauley: $eah, really. Heather Porter: And then have pursued us or work. Andrew McCauley: 5ow, you and & have both done some other podcasts as well. Heather Porter: $eah. Andrew McCauley: &nvolved with some other people!s podcasts and some o them have had a little bit o a di erent ormat and that sort o thing. So, the great thing about podcasts is that you can create your own ormat. $ou don!t have to have a speci ic ormat. $ou know, i you!re thinking about doing a podcast, you can do it by yoursel 2 you can .ust sit there and have a chat with yoursel . $ou can do an interview style. There are some really, really known podcasts out there that do an interview 2 very popular podcasts that do an interview with other people and they ask the same 0uestions over and over again. %ut they!re getting some abulous results. And then, there!s things like us. +e!re doing a chat here and there, we do a couple o interviews with di erent people to break it up a bit. So, whatever your ormat is, .ust know that there is an audience or you generally. Anyway, let!s dig in and talk about that. Do we want to dig in now or do you want to add something else to that piece' Heather Porter: $eah, & know. & guess about that piece, & mean, the key thing to think o it is a chance or you to show o what you know, and you can do that as an interviewer because it!s through your 0uestioning and also your network. As the interviewer, you!re bringing in your network to the listeners and so you!re automatically validating yoursel as an e"pert that way. 4r, i talking, you know, you!re sharing your knowledge. So, no matter how you do it, it is a chance or you to e"pand your network and really show o what you know and who you know, more importantly as well. Andrew McCauley: De initely, and everyone loves being on a podcast. $ou know, it doesn!t matter how amous they are 2 well, it does 2 but a lot o people will still take the time to get out and be ound on podcasts. So, yeah, let!s dig in and talk about some o this stu . +hat are some o the things you want to cover about this podcasting business' Heather Porter: #odcasting bene its. +ell, let!s see. So, let!s talk about when you ilm 2 & should say, 8when you record your podcast,9 2 where else can you put it online' So, let!s talk about the di erent places we!ve listed in, how it sits on di erent websites, how we!re promoting it because, obviously, when you create a piece o content, a lot o people think, 8Ah, &!ll .ust stick it in iTunes,9 but the bene its o having a podcast are so much bigger. The places you can put it are so much more. So, you know, what we have, we have a website 2 o course, we have the

Autopilot$our%usiness.com>podcast 2 and all that website is, it!s a sub<site o our main Autopilot$our%usiness.com. %ut in there, all you see are our podcasts. That!s it. So, we have our episodes in there where you can stream, and download, and get show notes, and get resource links and, you know, opt<in and sign up or our weekly updates. There!s so much more going on there than we could ever accomplish .ust through iTunes or .ust wherever you!re actually listening to the show. So, you know, that!s one place that we have it. +here are some o the directories, Andrew, that we!ve put it as well' Andrew McCauley: 4kay. So, .ust like $ouTube, you know, people think that $ouTube is the only video housing site out there. There!s a whole bunch o other video housing sites. iTunes is not the only audio site that!s out there either. So, there!s places like Stitcher 2 Stitcher ?adio. There!s a thing called Spreaker. +e!ll put all o these in the resources section o our website, too. There is iHeart?adio that you can actually put your podcast on i you want to do it there as well. There is Sound*loud. And now, these are all places that you can reely put these things up. There!s things called #odcast Alley and #odcast #ickle, & think it!s called. There!s another one that &!m missing which is a new one that we!ve .ust put on. +hat was that one again, H' Heather Porter: (osh, & wish & could remember. So many o those/ Andrew McCauley: +e!ve got Stitcher, Spreaker, Sound*loud 2 they all start with S 2 iHeart?adio. Heather Porter: +e have it on %lubrry as well. +e use a plug<in in our website or +ord#ress called %lubrry. &t!s really cool because it allows you to automatically sync your blog posts as your show notes into iTunes, and it also comes with its own community so it!s not .ust what the plug<in is on your website but it!s a whole community o people using this plug<in which is where our podcast show is listed as well. Andrew McCauley: #od4matic was the one & was trying to think o . Heather Porter: Thank you, yeah. & knew that, i & gave you a little bit o time there to think about it, you!d come up with it. Andrew McCauley: $eah, #od4matic. So, they!re our places that we put them out on. 7ike anything though, we don!t .ust go and create an empty pro ile. +e want to make sure that our pro ile is illed with in ormation so that, i people are searching or us, we want to get ound everywhere. +e want to get ound in as many places as we can. And so, essentially, what happens with our podcast is we record it and we!ll upload it to our %lubrry or our website, our +ord#ress website. &t!ll automatically go and suck it into iTunes and then we grab that audio ile and we!ll go and add it to those various di erent podcasting channels or us. +e!ve been getting some really, really good results. There is communities out there who live on those sites rather than iTunes because some people are against those big corporations like Apple so they want to go

Listen to the podcast here: http://autopilotyourbusiness.com/podcasts/56-the-benefits-of-podcasting/ Get a copy of our Online Survival Guide here: http://aybguide.com www.autopilotyourbusiness.com

and ind their own little community. +e!re getting some great results on these di erent communities out there, too. Heather Porter: 4h, it!s ama1ing. Suddenly we have all these listeners coming in and liking or ollowing our actual pro iles in these di erent directories, and who would have thought' $ou know, when we irst got started, we were .ust thinking, 8+e!ll test this and we!ll put it on iTunes,9 and now suddenly there!s ull<blown communities 2 almost like their own little social media sites where you can engage and talk back and orth and share iles. &t@s cool. So, we!ve really been branching out into these di erent directories or podcasting. Andrew McCauley: $eah, de initely, de initely. Heather Porter: 5ow, another thing that we have done which, as you listen to this, you!ll notice that there!s like an intro 2 you know, 8Andrew who!s the Aussie bloke, blah blah blah.9 The ending bit where, you know, 87et!s take o ,9 and it has airplane sounds and we have little segues or little ad breaks that are in<between. +hy we do that, again, is because you listening to this right now, we want you to come and hang out with us online in di erent areas, and the only way to do that is to give you opportunities or tell you about what else we have going on. So, what!s cool about podcasting, a big bene it is, i you use your links and you talk about where people can come and hang out with you in di erent areas then you are building a community away rom podcasting as well. $ou!re actually moving your listeners into a whole other area. +e now have people, Andrew, in our ;&# 7ounge which is we have loads o tutorials and how<to!s and what<not<to<do!s and things like that or tra ic and content and social media. And we have people in there now that & believe their irst introduction to us was our podcast. Andrew McCauley: ?eally, yes. & think you!re right there. $ou know, it!s pretty awesome how a community can build around a podcast, especially when you!re giving great in ormation to people. &t!s pretty awesome. +e!ve had a ew shout<outs but we!ve had even some o our listeners 2 and & wonder i they!re listening now 2 have helped us redesign our logo or our iTunes store. Heather Porter: $eah, how cool is that' Andrew McCauley: Totally. Heather Porter: So, & think the thing is a bene it is the community that you build. &t!s really bringing the listener into your other world, into your other space online, whether it!s social media or, you know, private communities, or .ust coming over and reading your blogs or watching your videos, you know' There!s such a un, huge potential o really .ust creating that content that they can carry with them and then they decide how and when to engage with that content 2 the podcast and what else you have to o er. Andrew McCauley: $eah, yeah, de initely. How hard was it to get those bumpers and stu made or our podcast'

Listen to the podcast here: http://autopilotyourbusiness.com/podcasts/56-the-benefits-of-podcasting/ Get a copy of our Online Survival Guide here: http://aybguide.com www.autopilotyourbusiness.com

Heather Porter: So ama1ingly easy. $ou can go to 6iverr. $ou know, or A,.BB you can get voiceover artists. & know that now they!re charging a little bit more sometimes i you have your little intro or outro script a little bit longer. %ut still, we!re talking like, you know, AC,.BB, ADB.BB. :lance, you can ind voiceover artists on :lance which is now combining to be with oDesk. $ou know, you can go to premium royalty ree sites where you can get really pumping, cool, pop<sounding, you know, Top EB music or AEB.BB a track that you can actually then put and edit underneath the voiceover artist. So, not hard at all, not hard at all. And now, Andrew, another thing too. A bene it o the podcast that &!ve ound is .ust the act that it kind o has li ted us up as e"perts. & mean, & know that when & have my speaking gigs, they!ll introduce me 2 the )* will introduce me as co<host o a podcast that!s in FB countries because ours is .ust over FB which is pretty cool. Andrew McCauley: Awesome. Heather Porter: So, you know, when & irst heard that introduction last year when & was going up on stage, she got up and she goes, 8Ah, Heather #orter!s coming up/ Amongst all these other things, she has a podcast in over FB countries,9 and & thought, 8+ow/ That!s kind o impressive.9 So, you know, that was not necessarily our intention but hearing it talked in that way, it is a tool that you can use to build your business and yoursel up as a bit o an e"pert in the space. Andrew McCauley: Totally, totally, yeah. Here!s the thing. 4kay, we!ve been downloaded in FB countries because we!ve been doing this or a little while, but even at the start, & mean, to have a podcast on di erent channels, it!s still very impressive that you!ve been able to go and do that. $ou know, all we!re doing right now is we!re talking on like a phone line, we!re recording what we!re doing, and then we!re uploading it so it!s not as i it!s a very high technical challenging aspect. Also, it doesn!t cost us anything. $ou know, we!re doing this or ree. +e!re using Skype call right now to do this podcast. &t!s not costing us any money to do this, adding it up there. So, your reputation can be established relatively cheaply. Heather Porter: Absolutely. Another thing, let!s talk about repurposing. So, we!re big believers in repurposing content and that our podcast is a really big pivotal leverage point or us to not only create new concepts that we repurpose later but to also repurpose content we already have. So, & always like to re er to the automation series that we!ve done which & know we!ve talked a little bit about be ore but might as well 0uickly revisit it. So, you know, gosh, we had a webinar, a series o webinars where we actually taught automation tools in everything rom sta ing to time management to marketing, sales, then we actually took that content and we did blog posts and videos, but we also did a podcast show. So, we have a series o automation podcasts that!s on our website 2 there!s a little banner in the right<hand side that says it!s our automation series, i you click on that, you can hear all o them. %ut we were able to then re<use all this research because we spend a bit o time looking or these tools and concepts and we were able to re<use them in a di erent way and share them to an audience.

Listen to the podcast here: http://autopilotyourbusiness.com/podcasts/56-the-benefits-of-podcasting/ Get a copy of our Online Survival Guide here: http://aybguide.com www.autopilotyourbusiness.com

So, i you!re thinking in terms o 0uality content which is what all o you should be thinking in terms o what you!re creating these days, it takes time to do 0uality content 2 you!ve got to do research and you!ve got to look into it, spend the time to create it. So, why not branch out into other spaces like podcasting where you can re< use all the hard work you!ve done or other places' Andrew McCauley: $eah, de initely, de initely. & agree GBB per cent. & mean, it!s not that hard to go and repurpose this sort o stu . Heather Porter: 5o. Andrew McCauley: And when you sort o think about it a little bit, you can really repurpose one thing so many di erent ways. &t becomes a game, almost. & love the repurposing aspect o all o this stu that we!re doing. Heather Porter: $eah, because some people that are listening to this now are not going to be interested in our $ouTube channel. $ou know, some are not going to be interested in reading our blog posts, and vice versa, and maybe some people are and we all know that we learn best when we actually listen a ew di erent times, a ew di erent ways. &t .ust sinks into your mind better. So then you have that opportunity as well because whether we!re doing it here or in a video, we!re always going to have slight di erences that come out on the spot based on what we!re talking about. So, it!s a pretty cool tool or that as well. So, look, credibility and & guess the last thing that &!ve noticed with creating this sort o stu is that it makes it easier to approach other e"perts in your space 2 or e"ternally o your space, people you look up to 2 to ask them or that interview because once you have the website and>or the directory set up and you have your podcast, you have something legitimate and tangible where you can go and say, 8Hey/ & want you on my show/9 Andrew McCauley: $ep, de initely. And, as & said in the start, people love being an e"pert and interviewed on a show. They!re not going to know how many people you do or you don!t have, you know' So, go and get an e"pert in your ield and industry and ask them a ew 0uestions. %y the way, people ask, 8+ell, how long does a podcast have to be'9 &!ve seen podcasts that go or DB seconds. Heather Porter: +ow/ Andrew McCauley: And &!ve seen podcasts that go or a couple o hours. Heather Porter: $eah. Andrew McCauley: So, somewhere in the middle there, you can ind your nice sweet spot. $ou don!t have to go longer than you need to. +ell, don!t go longer than you need to. =ust go as long as you need to. Heather Porter: $eah.

Andrew McCauley: $ou don!t need to lu your message in G, minutes. Heather Porter: :"actly.

it out to a hal an hour i you can deliver

Andrew McCauley: So, i you look at the times on our podcast, they go anywhere rom, you know, DB minutes to & think we did an hour almost once 2 depending on what the topic was. So, yeah, don!t get stuck on other people!s rules. &t!s your little podcast. Do what you want with it. &t can be done any way you like. Heather Porter: So, Andrew, do you have anything else that is coming up to mind right now that are really big bene its' Something that!s really changed or you or that!s come into your path as a result o having this show' Andrew McCauley: & think it!s opened, as you said, it!s opened so many doors to actually meeting people, too 2 meeting people that are important or industry e"perts. $ou know, to be able to go and say that &!ve got a podcast and this is what & do, that gives you that credibility as you!re saying and it opens the door to connecting with those people. $ou know, there!s people that are out there that we would never have connected with be ore but we!ve said, you know, 8This is what we do. +e!d love to maybe we!d be allowed to chat to you about some business. +e!ve got a podcast. +e teach this sort o in ormation around the world. +e!d love to have you on the podcast,9 and then, all o a sudden, they!re like, 8$eah, we!d love to be part o it.9 +hereas, previous to that, &!d be like, 84kay, &!ve got a website and a blog,9 they!d be like, 84kay, yep, and3'9 $ou know' Heather Porter: $eah. &t!s still kind o resh and e"citing. $ou know, it!s on that tipping point. & know it!s already tipped in America where more people are listening to podcasts than radio and satellite radio, but it!s going outside o the US now into other countries so it!s still that moment o time where you can still get in and you can still do it where websites now are the new business card and everyone has one. +hat else can you do to share your brand' And this is a really cool way o doing it. Andrew McCauley: $eah, and in this day and age o people, the mobile phones now have taken over desktops so your mobile phones, your devices, your tablets are per ect or podcasts, or listening to podcasts as you!re walking around and traveling. So, people want to consume the in ormation when they!re ready or it and podcasting is a per ect way to educate people. & they!re looking or education 2 and a lot o people are 2 they might be listening to your podcast. Heather Porter: So, i you!re listening to this and you!re thinking, 84kay, yeah, &!m ready. $ou know, &!m ready,9 2 & hope this is what this show has done or those o you .ust on the edge and thinking, 8Ah, gosh, sounds like a lot o work.9 5o, it!s not a lot o work when you get into the groove and you get the right tools and it is worth it. $ou know, we really love doing it. +e love having you guys supporting us as our listeners. And i you!re interested, look, there!s so many resources online. $ou can .ust go and (oogle what!s the right microphone or podcasting.

$ou can go to the site we mentioned earlier, %lubrry, which is that plug<in and that podcasting community and there!s tutorials in there, you know, how to get started. They!ve .ust changed their plug<in so it!s so incredibly easy when you install it. &t literally walks you through how to set up a podcast rom inside o your +ordpress site, how to set up the eeds in iTunes, how to set up the images. 7ike, it has tutorial videos. They!ve done a really nice .ob so it holds your hand in setting up your podcast so there!s no more e"cuses, guys. & you want this, do it/ Andrew McCauley: Do it, do it, do it/ That!s really cool. That!s really good. So, you know, &!m happy. That!s the in ormation & want to share today because & think that!s enough. & mean, & can!t recommend it highly enough. Heather Porter: 5o. Andrew McCauley: +e love doing it. +e!re even thinking about kind o doing a second one in con.unction with our T; show too so keep your eye out or that as well. Heather Porter: :"actly/ There you go/ So, there you have it, and as always, we would love to hear what you think, and the best way to tell us that is by leaving us a review on iTunes or popping us in any o the multiple podcast directories we!ve shared. $ou can leave comments there or ollow us. 4r come to our website, Autopilot$our%usiness.com>podcast, and leave us a comment or get in touch by our contact orm. +e have a little voicemail bo" there as well, you can leave us a voice message and let us know.
