WAW has helped thousands

I
magine receiving your paycheck after an arduous
and difficult week of work; only to find that your
check was 41% less than your male co-workers. This
was the world for thousands of women in 1979 but,
most importantly, it was the world that five Pasadena
women set out to change.
Barbara Burke, Marge Lauritson Leighton, Betty Ann
Jansson, Rosemary Gunn and Karnie Cooper had met one
another through the Pasadena League of Women Voters in
fall 1974. Their passion for women’s issues brought them
together, and their knowledge of urban problems soon took
them on an incredible journey. Determined to make a dif-
ference these five women banded together in November of
1975 to form Pasadena Urban Research Consultants, which
