Thomas-Price 1 Deja Thomas-Price The Bad Girls Club (Season 10) Description of the location: The location that

the show takes place is a mansion. The mansion is pink on the outside and consists of a purple/pink color scheme on the majority of the inside of the house. Aside from the typical rooms that are usually inside of homes (bathroom(s), kitchen, dining area, etc.), there are rooms that are essential to the BGC mansion. For example, the beauty room is where all of the girls go to do their makeup. The room has a large table in the center, with mirrors at little stations for each girl to keep all of her things. Theres also a confessional room where the girls go to basically confess things about the other girls in the house, themselves, and whatever else they want to get off of their minds. The bedrooms are located upstairs and consist of 2/3 beds in each room. Theres a huge walk in closet for the girls to keep a lot of their clothing and what not. The only phone in the house is in a closed off room with one chair for the girls to have their privacy while theyre on the telephone. In the kitchen and dining room of the house, the floor is made up of what seems to be fake grass to give off a theme that resembles outside. In the back of the house, theres a pool, Jacuzzi, and tents to sit underneath with patio chairs. The description of the location is really easy to follow.

Figured world: A figured world is a place that is typically a mental figment (even though it can be an actual, real life place) that consists of a specific set of expected rules and ways of behaving while present in said world.

Elaborate on what BGC is. The rules and appropriate behavior isnt extremely limited as far as the BGC mansion goes. Obviously, there are no cell phones and/or TV allowed in the mansion in attempt to separate the girls from the outside world to help them focus on what is going on inside of the house. It is not acceptable for the girls to engage in extreme physical altercations that could possibly result in someone getting terribly injured (that can result in being kicked out of the club). If you decide to leave the house on your own terms for an extended period of time, it has to be for under extreme circumstances such as a severe injury in the family. If you leave for any reasons other than that such as just wanting to go home, chances are you wont be accepted back into the house, and if you are, it is very rare. This also applies to if you are kicked out of the house for a particular reason. You are not allowed to come back and live in the house unless stated otherwise. Other than the rules stated above, there is a very high tolerance for what is acceptable in the bad girls club house. Its the bad girls club for a reason, and its intended to be an experiment in hopes of helping the girls moderate their behavior and realize what they need to change about themselves. The reason theyre placed in the house with so many other girls is for the girls to help each other or at least point out what everyone needs to work on to better themselves. Move description of the show to the beginning of the paragraph.

Actors: Actors are people in the figured world that basically helps everything come together. Generally, without actors, there is no figured world. So the actors are what helps establish everything that is acceptable or prohibited within the figured world. Usually, the actors within a figured world all have something or maybe even a lot of things in common, which is probably why theyre all in the same place.
Elaborate where the states are, just to be as specific as possible. Paula Hellens: Paula is the first girl to enter the house. Shes twenty-six years old and is from Chicago, IL. She makes it evident that shes lost three jobs for inappropriate behavior. She speaks her mind and is very blunt with how she feels about certain actions and people, but she also knows when to let things go. She doesnt believe that fighting is mature. For that very reason, she appears to be one of the more mature, motherly women in the house. Nicole Vargas: Nicole is the second girl to enter the house. Shes twenty-two and is from Fort Lee, NJ. Nicole, like Paula, is very blunt with how she feels about things as well. Shes a jokester, and does not tolerate bullying and is fully against it. She believes that two wrongs dont make a right; however, she believes that it is always necessary to defend yourself. Shannon Sarich: Shannon is the last girl out of the seven to enter the house. Shes twenty-six and is from Portland, OR. She looks the most different out of all of the girls, because shes had quite a bit of plastic surgery. Her mother left her when she was two. Shes worked hard all her life for everything that shes gotten and has never really had anything handed to her. She went to military school, and though she appears to be one of the toughest girls in the house, shes actually one of the softest and has a big heart. Add the rest of the originals, and detail them with maybe a phrase.

Artifacts: Artifacts are items physically or emotionally that help set the figured world in stone. They are essential to the figured world, because they have an impact on the people in the location, and if they arent there, then it alters the figured world, even if its in the slightest way.
The BGC limo/jeeps: These are the only means of transportation that the girls have, and without this, they wouldnt really be allowed to go anywhere, because its apparent that they arent able to call taxis, and they certainly arent able to bring their own cars with them to the house. Shannons past: A lot of the other girls in the house are close with their mothers and have never been in military school or even had plastic surgery. These things are what make Shannon so different from the rest of the girls and has helped shape her into the person she enters the house as.

Thomas-Price 3 Valentinas experience: Valentina states that being in the house isnt a big deal to her and isnt really different from when she was in an all-girls boarding school and had to share a room with one-hundred other girls. Even though being surrounded by so many girls all at once and being forced to live with them is new to the other girls in the house, Valentina already knows how it is and has a sense of what to expect due to her boarding school experience

Dicourse Communities: These are subgroups within the figured world that have alike ways of interacting with one another due to having similar opinions, goals, interests, etc.
Roommates: The girls that are roommates with one another typically are a lot closer, because theyre around each other a lot more of the time. Hot-Heads: The hot-heads are the girls that have higher tempers and dont have as much self-control. This usually results in them leaving earlier or getting into way more altercations with people than is actually necessary. Add cliques to discourse communities to elaborate on how the girls distinguish themselves from each other.

Literacy Practices: Literacy practices are a specific way of communicating that heightens expression. This could consist of the way something is said or the way the body is presented while someone is speaking.
Janaes metaphors/similes: When Janae is attempting to explain why she did something, she usually uses metaphors/similes as a way of trying to get the other girls to see where shes coming from. For example, she said, When Im drunk, Im like a snare drum. When Im sober, Im like a bass drum. Paulas loudness: When Paula is trying to get a point across, she gets really loud. This doesnt always happen when shes mad. This is usually her way of expressing her excitement as well.

The Observation (1): Elaborate the time lapse between the different episodes. This will help it be more evident how much time has passed by.

Bold the times for observations.

The observations are a decent length. Theyre the perfect amount of detail. 9:37PM-Paula is shown pulling up in a car. She enters the mansion very excitedly and freaks out once she sees how wonderful and large the house is on the inside. She explores all of the rooms in the house and chooses which room she wants to be in.

Thomas-Price 4 9:40PM-Nicole enters the house second and meets Paula. Since they hit it off well, they decide to be roommates. After Nicole explores the house, she and Paula discuss how they hope to have a good time that involves no drama while they are in the house. 9:50PM-The last girl to enter the house is Shannon, and she is shown arriving. She enters the house and introduces herself to all of the girls and tells them a little bit about herself, like the fact that shes had a lot of plastic surgery. She tops everything off with telling the girls that theyre all beautiful. 9:56PM-Paula confronts Janae and tells her that she was being rude in the limo and that she doesnt appreciate it. She explains to Janae that she knows and understands that she was feeling sick and that she was only trying to help her tie up her hair so that it wouldnt get messed up. 10:01PM-While having a talk in the Jacuzzi, Janae informs the girls that she has anger issues and explains thats the reason she lashes out a lot of the time, in hopes of getting the girls to understand where shes coming from. 10:06PM-Janae is making the grocery list to figure out what theyre going to go buy from the grocery store. She begins asking the girls what they want, and tells them that she has to go get her beef. From the way Janae is talking, Alicia begins imitating her accent and the way people from Texas seem to act and talk. 10:10PM-Janae gets upset because Nicole says that she has no desire to go to Texas. Janae tries to converse with Nicole about what her problem is with Texas. Nicole tells Janae that she doesnt feel the need to go there, because she simple doesnt want to. They end up having a small confrontation. 10:15PM-The girls are fed up with Janae for embarrassing them in public and are tired of her not being able to control herself when she drinks. While some of the girls still attempt to help her, many of the girls decide that theyre done dealing with her. 10:18PM-Janae tells the girls that she wants to go to bed, because in all honesty, shes tired of the arguing and fighting. She ends up getting into a huge altercation with Nicole and Valentina as a result of drinking all day, not being able to control herself, and whining all of the time. The Observation (2): 5:10PM-The episode opens with a recap of the altercation between Janae, Nicole, and Valentina. The aftermath of it all consists of Janae walking around the house confused and intoxicated asking everyone what she did for all of that to happen, while Valentina tells her that she needs to leave the BGC and return home. 5:15PM-Alicia sits down and has a talk with Janae and tells her that everyone in the house is equal and that being in the house is a learning experience and about growing up. ---Janae tells Paula that shes not going anywhere and she doesnt want to be by herself, because shes not

Thomas-Price 5 used to being alone. Paula reassures her that if thats the case, then she needs to stop isolating herself from the rest of the girls in the house. 5:20PM-Janae walks into the beauty room while all of the other girls are getting ready and tells them that she apologizes for everything thats happened over the course of the past few days. Nicole tells Janae to shove her apology up her ass, calls her the boy that cried wolf, and lets her know that she believes theres good in everyone, but its hard for her to see the good in Janae with the way that she constantly acts. 5:26PM-Alicia talks on the phone with her brother Michael about the experience so far as well as about the girls and how shes not going to be quick to trust anyone in the house just yet. She then tells Nicole to come and talk to her brother on the phone, because hes tall and tatted and shed like him. Nicole begins flirting with Michael. 5:30PM-Janae decides to go and talk to Valentina about everything that happened, because she feels bad about everything. Valentina lets Janae know that she was her best friend in the house, and if Janae wouldnt have placed her hands on her, she wouldnt have touched her. Janae nods understandingly, even though its evident that she didnt touch Valentina throughout the altercation they had the previous night before. They end the conversation with a hug. 5:36PM-While outside at the pool, Janae asks Alicia if she thinks her brother Michael would actually go for Nicole. Slightly surprised, Alicia responds letting Janae know that when Michael enters club, girls swarm over him, and asks Janae if she really thinks hed go for Nicole. The scene cuts to an interview where Alicia states that she wouldnt be very happy if Nicole tried to pursue any of her brothers if they ever came to the house for a visit. 5:39PM-Alicia, Shannon, and Janae decide to make a concoction of food and other things as a prank to throw on the girls while theyre sleeping. Nicole wakes up and tells everyone not to mess with her, because she doesnt feel good. The girls spill the concoction all in the hallway. Nicole gets upset over the mess, and Shannon tells Nicole that even though she didnt spill anything, shell clean it up. Alicia gets upset, because she feels as though Shannon is being shady by saying she had nothing to do with the prank, because she thought she, Shannon, and Janae were all in it together. 5:42PM-Alicia goes into the confessional and begins expressing how she feels that Shannon is a snake and isnt loyal. Shannon walks in and Alicia proceeds to throw water in her face. They then go into the kitchen while the altercation continues. Valentina tells a very calm Shannon that she needs to calm herself. Shannon responds to Valentina by saying that if she gets any calmer shell be levitating. Valentina tells Shannon that she feels its weak that she can say she loves Alicia but cant even give her a proper apology. Shannon then calls Valentina Kunta Kinte. 5:49PM-The girls, aside from Janae decide to throw Shannons bed mattress in the pool due to her rude comments towards Valentina. Janae starts to feel a bit calmer about her place in the house, because she feels as if all of the hate isnt directed towards her any longer.

Thomas-Price 6 5:55PM-All of the girls, including Shannon and Janae, go out to the club. Janae doesnt have a really good time at the club, and feels sad and lonely. She asks Alicia if shes being genuine with her, and Alicia gets upset, because she doesnt understand what Janae means by her question. Paula asks Janae why she doesnt feel that people are being genuine with her, and Janae tells all of the girls that she hears a lot of side conversations and it makes her wonder. 6:00PM-Valentina and Alicia converse in the background about how they feel someone needs to go. Alicia says that Shannon is about to go out and run some errands, and they should pack her bags while shes gone. Valentina lets Alicia know that Shannon apologized to her earlier in the confessional and that she thinks Shannon is very annoying. Alicia then tells Valentina she feels that they should get Janae out of the house first, because she shouldnt be there and shes way too whiny. The girls write Bye on Shannon and Janaes beds to give them a warning.

The Observation (3): 6:10PM-Janae sits down and has a meeting with the rest of the girls and while having the meeting and mentions why she initially asked Alicia if she was being genuine with her. She lets everyone know what was said at the pool by Alicia about how Michael wouldnt want Nicole. Nicole then begins to realize how Alicia is, but since the meeting is about Janae, she lets the comment by Alicia go and pretends that it isnt a big deal. 6:14PM-Alicia and Valentina decide to pack Janaes things and kick her out. They create a messy concoction of foods and while Janae is in the process of trying to retrieve her clothes from outside, Valentina and Alicia throw the concoction of food all over her. When it runs out, they decide to make some more to throw all over her. 6:17PM-Nicole tells the girls that she doesnt think that they should be pouring food all over Janae, because thats being a bully and a mean girl, not being bad, and that shes already leaving so that should be enough without them pouring food all over her. Valentina tells Nicole that she doesnt care. Nicole continues to try to get Valentina and Alicia to stop pouring food all over Janae. Janae decides that shes going to leave. Shannon decides that shell laugh along with the girls to get in where she fits in, even though she doesnt agree with what theyre doing. Alicia begins pouring Janaes clothes out of the garbage bags, and when Janae tries to stop her, she and Alicia begin fighting. Afterwards, Nicole asks them why theyre picking on the wrong people. Janae leaves. 6:23PM-Shannon and Alicia have a one-on-one talk, and Shannon tells her that she was saying really mean things to her, so she was saying mean things back, because her feelings were hurt. Alicia tells her that the fight would have never happened if Shannon wouldnt have crossed her. The scene cuts to an interview where Shannon states that she plans to be nice to all of the girls

Thomas-Price 7 that now have a problem with her, including Alicia, because itll be harder for them to be mean to her if shes extremely nice to them all the time. 6:26PM-Alicia talks on the phone with Michael and updates him with everything thats been going on in the house, and tells him that her and Valentina are probably going to the running the entire house sooner than later. Michael reminds Alicia that she has a long way to go in the house, so she needs to be careful with everything that shes doing. 6:30PM-Nicole makes an appointment for all of the girls to go to the nail salon, since there has been so much tension in the house as of late. Before going out, Valentina and Alicia have a discussion at the table about Shannon and Janae, and Alicia talks about how she would have rather Janae had left first than Shannon, because Janae was being way too whiny and distancing herself from everyone. Valentina says that she can respect someone that can take the heat and still stay, so now, she respects Shannon. 6:34PM-At the nail salon, Nicole tells the girls that she wants to go out at night. Valentina lets her know that she doesnt feel well and refuses to go out, and a few of the girls agree with Valentina. Nicole doesnt think that its fair that every time they want to go somewhere, she tags along, but when she wants to go somewhere, theres always some sort of excuse. She lets the girls know that she isnt going to beg them, but if theyre not going out with her, then shes not going out with them the next night. Valentina gets upset with Nicole and decides that she is now against her, because she feels that Nicole is irritating. 6:38PM-Nicole talks to all of the girls and tells them that she apologizes for acting the way that she did at the nail salon, she just didnt like how Valentina was yelling at her. Valentina reassures her that she wasnt trying to be rude to her, but she was genuinely trying to tell her that she didnt feel good enough to go out for the night. Paula and Stephanie let Nicole know that theyll go out with her for the night. 6:45PM-After their night out, Nicole, Paula, and Stephanie return to the house very intoxicated and excited. They make a lot of noise and wake up Shannon, Alicia, and Valentina. In the midst of all the excitement, Nicole accidentally drops a glass and it shatters to the floor. Alicia begins yelling at Nicole telling her to clean it up, but Nicole tells her that shell do it later. Alicia decides to clean up the mess, and Valentina gets upset with Nicole about the incident. Valentina tells Nicole that she needs to go upstairs and go to bed, because shes drunk. Nicole refuses to go upstairs, and tells Valentina that she isnt drunk. The episode ends with them getting into a heated altercation the kitchen.

INTERVIEW (with fan of the show) Add the name of the person. Therefore, we can know the name of the person.

Thomas-Price 8 If you were on the show, how would you maintain your sanity in the house, and why do you feel this/these plan(s) would be the best technique(s)?

I would ignore everything that bothered me, and stay away from the drama. I feel that this would be the best technique for maintaining my sanity, because it would help me refrain from getting into a bad situation where I could risk leaving the house.

What do you think would be the top three most difficult things for you to deal with in the house?

Fake people, people with anger issues, and people that cant take a joke very well.

Would you refrain from becoming close to people in the house and keep to yourself for the most part, or would you go with the flow, why or why not?

I would try to be a part of the group and be friendly with everybody, because I wouldnt want to be the person bringing everybody down and being the party pooper of the house. I wouldnt want to be the person feeling left out; Id want to be with everybody else.

If you felt that someone was getting bullied in the house by another person/group of people, would you defend them even if they werent your friend, or would you stay out of it? Why or why not?

I feel like if they deserved it, then I wouldnt do anything, however, if they didnt do anything wrong, Id say something. If they didnt do anything wrong and theres no reason, Id defend them, because I feel like its wrong to pick on someone just to bring them down. If they were doing things to the point where they deserved it, I wouldnt defend them, because its their karma.

Based on your personality, do you feel as if itd be super easy or extremely difficult for you to make it to the end of the three months in the house without leaving or getting kicked out? Explain why.

I think it would be easy for me, because Im outgoing and a fun person. I like to drink and party like everyone else usually does on the show, so I feel like I wouldnt really have any problems.

Thomas-Price 9 Questions: 1) Do my observations need to be lengthier, less detailed, or are they okay the way they are? 2) Is the description of my location easy to understand? 3) In general, am I missing anything that could have made my observation better if I had added it?
