The bodys ability to protect itself from the environment depends largely on the integrity of the integumentary system. The skin contributes to metabolic activities and is a key part of maintaining homeostasis.

Types of wounds
Wound Accidental Description Unintentional injury, such as knife, gunshot, burn, jagged edges, bleeding, unsterile Planned therapy, such as surgical incision, needle introduction, clean edges, controlled bleeding, control surgical asepsis

The type of dressing used depends on the type of wound, location, status, and personal preference.
