Raymond ENGL 1101-E01 3/10/14 The History and Meaning Behind Tattoos Matt and Is semester long multimodal inquiry project will be on the history, customs, and tools behind tattoos around the world. This project will hopefully accurately display how tattooing has evolved from the time of their creation to todays tattoos of the world. The main points to be expanded on in this project will include; the history of tattoos beginning with origins and key points of change throughout the time they have existed thus far along with future expectations, customs dealing with tattooing of the worlds many different cultures such as taboos and rituals, and the tools and methods associated with tattooing in the many different regions and time periods of societies of the world. The design of this project will include the utilization of many outside sources of information such as personal interviews, text written on the subject, and examples of certain media that both support and condemn tattooing in order to allow the reader to form their own personal opinion on the matter. The technologies required of these sources may include but are not limited to access to internet and library sources as well as personal connections within the tattooing community and the artists of todays trade. In the visual aspect of this representation of information gathered, a PowerPoint presentation will be developed that will include key points of information to be expanded upon by the presenters, Matt and I, along with many visual aids or pictures.

This proposed plan is appropriate for the topic being discussed because Matt and I both are interested and intrigued by different types of tattoos. Even though tattoos get a bad rep for being immature, or inappropriate, if done right, then they could have a deep meaning that one would want to express in the most intense way. Putting something on your body for life means that one is either stupid, or they stand behind their decision 100 percent. The proposed project plan is effective in representing tattooing because, if executed correctly, it will inform the reader of the subject from a nonbiased point of view and allow the reader to create a personal educated opinion on the matter. Instead of dividing up specific portions of the project among the members of the group and bringing them together in the end our group has chosen a different approach to overcoming this workload. Matt and I have decided that due to the fact that we live together as roommates it would be in the best interests of the project to work together on every aspect of research and creation of the presentation. This will allow multiple opinions on each portion of the work and, in turn, will produce research of much higher quality than that of one individual. Our timeline for the project is fairly basic. Since Matt and I are roommates, we can do work pretty much whenever we want. By 3-24, we want to have a good amount of research done, and to have started to put slides together. By 3-31, we expect to have the power point part of the project done. And for the rest of the time period, we would like to have enough time to work on a video portion of the project that we plan to do. Matt is very tech savvy and said he could put together a cool video for the creative portion of the project.
