Excel level-1 A worksheet that is not formatted properly will look cluttered and it will be difficult to analyze its

data. By highlighting specific cells rows or columns and using other formatting methods you can not only ensure that the re!uired data stands apart but also classify sets of data visually. "ith Excel your formatted worksheets can help you analyze data and locate the desired information efficiently.

font A font is a predefined typeface that can be used for formatting characters. Each font has a uni!ue style and character spacing. #onts can be either built in or user defined. $ypefaces can be letters numbers punctuation marks symbols and other graphical characters called ideograms.

font group $he #ont group on the %ome tab contains options to set font properties such as font face size and color. &ou can also access these options from the #ormat 'ells dialog box.

format cell $he #ormat 'ells dialog box contains various options for formatting the appearance of data in an Excel worksheet. &ou can preview the format result in the preview section before you apply it to the data. $he #ormat 'ells dialog box consists of six tabs containing formatting options. $he format cells dialog box contains various tab such as( 1.)umber( *pecify the option for changing the number formatting such as currency *hort +ate ,ong date and $ime.

*pecify the options for changing the alignment and orientation of data in a cell range. .t also contains options to warp text and merge cells.

/.#ont( *pecify the font properties such as font style size and color.

1.#ill( *pecify the fill color options such as Background 'olor 2attern 'olor and 2attern *tyle.

3.2rotection( *pecify the protection options such as locking cells or hiding formulas in a worksheet.

$he format 2ainter( $he format painter provides you with an easy option to copy only the formatting that is applied to a cell to another cell or cell range without copying the data. $he format painter works similar to a paintbrush and can be used to apply format changes to data or to copy a color scheme from one cell to another. "hen you select the format painter the cursor includes a paint brush graphic. &ou can double-click the #ormat 2ainter button to apply the same formatting to multiple cells in a worksheet.

4allery( A gallery is a repository for elements that belong to the same category. .n Excel a gallery acts as a central location for accessing various preset styles and appearance settings for an ob5ect. Excel provides galleries for various options such as cell styles

tables shapes and charts. 4alleries enable you to choose from any of the preset formats and styles to !uickly alter worksheet ob5ects.

6ini toolbar( $he 6ini toolbar is a floating toolbar that is displayed when you right-click a cell or select data within a cell. .t combines some of the options available in the various groups on the %ome tab and provides easy and !uick access to some of the fre!uently used formatting options. $his toolbar is automatically displayed when data is selected within a cell and remains semi-transparent until the mouse pointer is hovered over it. Although the 6ini toolbar is not customizable you can turn it off.

Borders( Borders enable you to emphasize and define sections in a worksheet. .n Excel you can apply borders to the sides of a cell or a range of cells in a worksheet. &ou can specify a border style or color that you want to apply to the selected cells in a worksheet. &ou can also remove any borders that are applied to cells if you do not re!uire them.

#ills #ills are worksheet enhancements that allow you to add background colors and highlight specific cells to draw attention to important data. &ou can choose from standard colors define a custom color or set a desired background effect. &ou can also select from a list of patterns and pattern colors to apply to the selected cells in a worksheet.

Alignment( $he Alignment options in Excel enable you to align content within a cell either horizontally or vertically. $hese options can be accessed from the Alignment group on the %ome tab.

.ndent command(

$he .ndent command is used to reposition data in cells for better spacing and readability. $he +ecrease .ndent command decreases the space between the left border and the text within a cell. $he .ncrease .ndent command increases the space between the left border and the text within a cell.

"arp $ext( Excel enables you to automatically wrap the text within a cell by using the "rap $ext option. .f the text within a cell extends beyond the space available this option moves the content to the next line within the cell and automatically modifies the row height to ensure that all of the text is visible within the cell. 'ell( $he content in a cell can be wrapped within a cell by entering a manual line break. After locating the point at which the line needs to be broken a manual line break can be inserted by holding down Alt and pressing Enter.

+isplaying data( $o display data in a worksheet legibly and with some symmetry you may have to change the orientation of data in cells. 7ften when the column header text is longer than the data contained below it you may want to change the angle of the header text diagonally or vertically to minimize the column width. $his allows you to fit more columns on a page. $he orientation options are usually used for labeling narrow columns. Excel allows you to orient data clockwise counterclockwise vertically or by a specific degree.

6erge features( 1. 6erge 8 'enter( .t is common to center the title left to right over the data in the worksheet. Although there is more than one way to accomplish this task probably the easiest way to do it is to use the 6erge and 'enter option on the %ome tab of the ribbon.

6erge and 'enter works by merging the selected cells into one and then centering the data in the new combined cell.
