Through this event we focus our efforts in HONORING those who have saved lives as donors, INSPIRING our diverse communities to donate life and HEALING lives through transplantation. As a team captain you are in the position to encourage and spread the word about organ and tissue donation. With your help we are able to spread the word about organ and tissue donation within our communities. Get excited! Talk about the Run/ Walk and your team to everyone you meet. Your excitement and involvement is contagious! Recruit your family and friends. Other potential members can be found at your place of worship, doctors office, neighborhood, etc. Arrange an employee presentation at work. Create a challenge between departments or other locations. If youd like a speaker from Donate Life, just ask. Get the word out and display the event everywhere! Put up Donate Life Run/Walk posters with your team name in the company lounge, lunch room, fitness center, lobby, elevators and/or stairwell. Display Donate Life Run/Walk brochures on your desk. Get people talking about the Run/Walk.

Motivate your team. Hold regular team get-togethers to build spirit and keep everyone informed. Tell your story or the story of your loved one. Spread the word about how organ and tissue donation has affected your life. Build a pyramid. Ask each person who joins your team to recruit at least 3 other team members. If you start with only 3 team members, and they each recruit 3 more team members, and those people each recruit 3 new team members youll have 39 team members! Post on Facebook. Invite your friends to register for your team and raise funds online. Be sure to include the web address to your team site so that they can register.

Get started now By getting started earlier you make it easier to reach your teams goals and see the impact you are creating. 2. Set goals Set goals as a team and strategize how youre going to reach them. 3. Lead the way Lead by example for your team by making your contribution first. 4. House party Kick off the team spirit at a house party and collect contributions. Create a theme and have fun with it! 5. Matching gifts Ask a friend or even your company to match pledges. Well-known corporations make these sponsorships as well! (See attached sheet) 6. Make a change with your pocket change Put your pocket change to good use and put a change box on your dresser or desk at work and watch it multiply. 7. Bake sale Let the kids help out and host a friendly bake sale. 8. Garage sales Get rid of all the clutter and have a garage sale. Ask your team to join you and double your efforts. 9. Let your story be heard Send out a letter with your story and why you are passionate about increasing the publics knowledge of Donate Life. If youre walking in memory of someone, add a personal photo of your loved one to your letter. 10. Make your usual stops count Ask your dentist/ doctor/ yoga instructor/ chiropractor for a team sponsorship or, even better, join in on the walk.

Promote your team activities on your favorite social media website and allow your friends to see your teams hard work.
Facebook is a great place to spread the word about your team and reach out to people for sponsorships or, even better, join your team!

Keep all your friends up to date on your teams progress and keep a countdown week to week until the walk. Make your group gatherings Facebook official and invite all your friends who havent joined the team yet. Take a second to thank everyone for their support or sponsorship toward your team.
Remember to link your Instagram to your Facebook and double your social media efforts.

Post picture of your teams memorabilia and your latest team events. Post videos of team members and interview them on why they are walking. Create a hashtag that you and all your team can use for their team pictures #DLRWTeam(insert team name)
Dont forget to tag your teammates and use your team hashtags.

Tweet @ new team members and welcome them. Tweet about the latest ways youve prepared for the Run/Walk, whether going on a night walk with some team members or scoring a great sponsorship.

How do people join my team? On the team website that is created when you originally register your team, there is an option for people to join your team until April 23, 2014. What if I register my team online and someone wants to join my team after the deadline of April 23, 2014? Any individuals whom wish to join your team after the deadline will need to go to the Walk-Up Registration tables the day of the event to register. Note: the line will be long so get there early. Can I register a team offline? Yes. Simply print the Team Fundraiser Collection Sheet from the Build a Team section of the Donate Life Run/Walk website to help you keep track of your team members and donations. On the day of the event, you and your team will need to register at the registration tables. Can I add cash and check contributions Ive received to my online fundraising goal? Yes. You can add both contributions and team member fees through the offline function. They may also be sent to our office at OneLegacy, 761. W. Kimberly Ave, Placentia, CA, 92870. Can participants register even if they cannot attend? Yes! We understand you have other commitments and appreciate your desire to support the Run/Walk.

To who are sponsorship contributions checks made out to? Donate Life Run/Walk What is the fee to participate? A team registration fee is $25 per person Are contributions tax deductible? Yes What happens if it rains? The Run/Walk will happen rain or shine! How long is the walk? Participants can choose to run/walk 5k or walk 1k. Are pets allowed to join? Pets are not permitted on the campus but disability service dogs will be allowed. Where do participants store items? Unfortunately there is no item storage for participants offered at the Run/Walk.

A Donate Life Run/Walk representative will send information and helpful e-mails leading up to the Run/Walk to assist Team Captains.
