With such an abundance of native Spanish speakers, that also means that there may be up to 450 million different opinions about
how to say any given sentence. How can you be sure you are saying what you want to, and how can you tell which dialect you
need? Opinions about the “best” version of Spanish will vary depending on whom you ask. What’s best in one case may not be in
another. These discussions can be very helpful; they form the basis for developing a glossary.
The attached guide is an introductory list of common terminology used in healthcare and health insurance materials. It is not
intended to be all-inclusive, but rather a collection of frequently standardized terms and definitions. As with any industry, many
terms and phrases can slightly vary from one organization to the next. For this reason, many organizations prefer to edit and add
to their guides when necessary so they can best reflect their organization’s terminology, preferences and what they believe best
complements their existing materials and target audience. To illistrate this example, the table below lists several different Spanish
terms for each original English word. While each translation is grammatically and linguistically correct, they may differ slightly due
to variances in the client’s preferences and/or target audiences.
