IV. Procedures: (What specifically will you do and say?)

1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. I will read the book Valentine Surprise to my students in class. I will then have a brief discussion about the book with my students as a group. We will discuss what they remember from the book. I will ask them to name something that happened in the beginning of the book, the middle of the book and the end of the book. Then I will pass out a sequencing activity to each individual. Using the event worksheet I will read the event strips, then have the students paste the numbers in order from 1-10, and then put them in the correct sequence. I will be around to help students read their event strips if they need assistance. After the activity is completed I will read the correct order of the sequence worksheet aloud to the students. Once the sequencing activity is completed I will then regroup the students and ask them What was your favorite part of the story? Once a few students answer the question I will tell them that my favorite part of the book is the illustrations. I will then break the students up into three smaller groups. Group 1- will have to use the illustrations from the book to develop descriptions about the characters. Group 2- will have to use the illustrations from the book to develop descriptions about the setting. Group 3- will have to use the illustrations from the book to develop descriptions about the plot. After each group has completed their assignment we will all come back together. I will then let each group talk about their descriptions they came up with based on the illustrations to the rest of the class. Finally, I will provide construction paper, scissors, glue, markers and crayons so that each student will be able to create their own valentine to take home for their mom!

V. Assessment: (How you will know your students learned?

I will know my students learned by the answers they give me from their group work assignment. I will also be able to tell by the accuracy of their completed event worksheet. I will be able to individually asses my students based upon their sequencing assignment and how well they were able to complete it. I will also be able to group assess my students by listening to each groups responses based upon their given topic using the illustrations from the book.
