Final Reflection
On the first day of class, I assumed we would be assigned a book to read and eventually
write essays discussing the book. I thought class time would be spent listening to the teacher
discuss the chapters assigned for the previous night as my past English classes had. However, I
came to discover this class was unique and unlike any previous classes.
A majority of class time was spent by engaging in conversation amongst one another. I
enjoyed how the discussions were random and always turned into something informative. In fact,
I was able to learn a lot about my classmates by the opinions they shared. The discussions turned
into debates which forced people to become open minded and listen to each side of the argument.
This course taught our class a lot through the daily discussions and allowed us to connect and
grow throughout the year.
Most of our conversations consisted of our opinions of the articles we were assigned to
read. In order to arouse discussion, we would have to comment on one anothers posts of the
articles. We also has conversations in regards to the main content of the course, the inquiry
project; our teacher would presume to ask us questions about our discourse community. She
questioned us so we could discover a deeper meaning to our topic and better familiarize
ourselves with it. Fortunately, these discussions assisted me in establishing my question for the

discourse community. Without having discussions in regards to our inquiry project, I would not
have felt as confident with my knowledge and organization of my discourse community.
Discussions have helped me grow as a writer and critical thinker, but they were not the
only part of this course that has been of assistance to me. The journals were an important aspect
of this course that allowed me to grow as a writer. Even though I have never kept a journal or
diary before, I feel the journals posed as my diary. The best part of the journals was being able to
write freely and expressing my thoughts and feelings. Usually, I am not the type of person who
shares these things, but since they were personal and were not read aloud I was able to express
myself in them.
Attending UNC Charlotte has taught me a lot about teamwork. Since I am president of
Moore Hall Council, teamwork plays a major role in my daily life. As I continued to do research,
I began applying things I learned to the Moore Hall Council. Organization, leadership, and
communication are all important qualities in order to build and maintain a productive team. I
ensured all jobs and deadlines were clear and I maintained a positive attitude with positive
reinforcement. In order to have the council work as a team, I took all the knowledge I gained and
applied it to my position of president.
