ne&er lost his desire to ser&e the (ord o&erseas and became a doctor in
p"blic health and tropical medicine He married his college s$eetheart%

to ser&e as medical missionaries Ci&il $ar bro*e o"t in the co"ntry forc-

$edding recepon that some friends held at an aban-

began reg"larly &ising this site% abo"t 6 miles from his home% and $al*ing aro"nd its fence% praying

aro"nd it% that !od $o"ld open the $ay for the missionaries to b"ild a hospital there

fo"nd that the large% steel gates in the $all of the
camp had been remo&ed? Apparently some 7sher-
men had ta*en them o@ and "sed their long rods
$ith sharp spear-li*e tops as ne$ 7shing spears An-
co"raged by this rather tangible ans$er to prayer%
Joe approached the go&ernor abo"t "sing the camp
3he go&ernor said the camp $as naonal property%
so Joe $o"ld ha&e to as* the president abo"t "sing
the camp A fe$ months later% $hen the president
and his $ife came for a &isit to +mpfondo% Joe $as
able to ha&e a meeng $ith the presidents $ife As

o&erseen the constr"con of that camp ten years

A larger &ersion is being pac*ed into a E4-foot shipping container desned for +mpfondo Congo this
spring 9issionary sta@ $ill tra&el bac* to the hospital and install a per-
manent staon
