REMINDER RE: SHOWJUMPS SET UP / PACK UP
PLEASE REMEMBER IF YOU ARE ON THE ROSTER TO EITHER SET UP OR PACK UP THE
JUMPS TO DO SO. ZOE WAS LEFT TO PACK UP THE SHOW JUMPS ON HER OWN AT THE
APRIL RALLY AFTER THE PEOPLE WHO WERE ROSTERED TO PACK THEM UP DIDNT, AND
BY THE TIME WE REALISED THEY WERE STILL OUT EVEYONE HAD LEFT.
THANKS MUCHLY

Welcome to the May newsletter. Daylight savings and warm weather are but a distant
memory as we get ready to head into the dark cold depths of winter.
We had a fantastic April Rally with instructor Catherine Davies and you can read about
it here, as well as see the beautiful photos taken by Beck from Becks Picture Moments.
Our May Rally is on Saturday 31
st
with instructors to be confirmed.
For the newer members who are not familiar with how our rally schedule dates work,
Zoe and Jen work with the WPNEC Administration on what dates are available for our
rallies. This is why we can only work a couple of months in advance.
Its also why rally dates can move from time to time and why on occasion can only get
the general purpose area for Showjumping and Dressage.
We try to schedule six rallies on Saturdays and six rallies on Sundays.
While we dont have the luxury of having fixed dates for the club, we are lucky in that
we have access to the use of all the facilities competition and EA Squad dependant -
and apart from Indoor 1 and Indoor 2 we only pay the facility fee for each rider.
The Committee meet at least by-monthly. We are lucky in that we dont have facilities,
grounds or equipment we have to maintain meaning the committee really only has to
worry about running the actual club.
If you have an issue or suggestion youd like tabled at a meeting, please dont hesitate
to contact any of the committee members.

MAY RALLY IS ON SATURDAY 31
ST

Dont forget to fill your Rally Request Form in on the WCEC Website
M

APRIL RALLY

Our traditional ANZAC Day Rally was back this year, and what an absolutely glorious day it was. It was one of
those days where you were thankful to be alive with great friends, our horses and a kick ass sausage sizzle for
lunch. Thank you to Lisas daughter Rebecca for looking after the BBQ for me you did a brilliant job on the
sausages and veggie burgers and to mum Lisa for cutting all the onions up for me. Thank you for crying all
those tears so I didnt have too.
And a massive thankyou once again to the Werribee Pony Club for not only letting us use the pony club rooms,
but also made sure the BBQ was good to go for us.
The weather God was smiling not only our Returned Service Men and Women but us as well. I hold ANZAC
day very close to my heart as I grew up in and am part of an RAAF family. Hence why I like to make a bit of a
fuss about this rally. Apart from the fact that it seems to be the largest attended rally of the year and this year
was no exception.
With the wonderful and club favourite Catherine Davies as our instructor for the day, we ran seven full lessons
for the day.
The dressage and showjumping was held on the grass all purpose area and cross country was held in the ladies
loos at the Zoo. No only kidding.
The Cross Country class I would have to say was the highlight of the day. Even we scaredy cats went out and
had a go. Catherine split us into two groups Scaredy Cats Myself, Steph O, Zoe and Beck - and Steph W and
Tara. It was a joy to watch Steph and Tara ride over the L1 and 2 jumps while we scaredy cats stuck to the L5
and 4 jumps.
We were also lucky enough to have to have Beck from Beck Picture Moments on site for the morning sessions
who took some beautiful photos. Please click on her Face Book Link. And thank you to Beck Maddocks for
arranging it.

Keep scrolling down for a collage of photos that can be seen at Becks Face Book Page

I even got to see my youngest brother Matthew fly
over in his formation on the way to buzz the ANZAC
Parade. PS hes the one flying the plane I was so
worried Id miss it but they flew right over the top of
us.

JULIE MILLS AND DUKE

If youve been out and about doing something non-horsey let me
know. Wed love to read about it.
Last Monday night I had the opportunity to attend the filming of an
episode of Master Chef. I just happened to be on their Facebook
page at the right time last week.
Down to the Top 8 I was lucky enough to be part of one their
restaurant challenges where I spent a very long and cold night in the
forecourt of the Master Chef kitchen in a the Melbourne Show
Grounds eating fabulous food and voting for my favourite team.
Alas thats about all I can say about the experience as I had to sign a
confidentiality agreement, but needless to say I had a fantastic night.
So Im now frantically playing catch with episodes up trying not to
like the people I know wont be there in 7 weeks time.
These are some of the photos taken by the MC Producers that were
allowed to share around.

JANE GRIFFIN MEMORIAL AWARD
Sponsored John and Dee Griffin
This award was created in the memory of Jane Griffin who was a regular Showjumping instructor at our club
rallies. Those of us who were fortunate enough to have lessons with her fondly remember her very assertive
and loud teaching style, the joy at achieving things we didnt think we could achieve and every lesson started
with Janes three rules of showjumping
Jump the Jump
Dont Fall Off
Look Good Doing it
Unfortunately Jane lost her life in tragic circumstances in June 2009. This award will be decided by the
showjumping instructor at each rally by nominating a member who they believe is worthy of the award, a
person who listens, tries hard and improves throughout the lesson.
MICHELE DEPASQUALE DRESSAGE AWARD
Michele now spends her time between working full time, running a Market Garden in Werribee South and
supporting her youngest son Anton in his bid to be the next Mark Webber. And young Anton is definitely on
his way.
Michele founded WCEC back 2005 wanting to locate a club at the National Equestrian Center. Over the
years Michele has dedicated so much of her time to the running of the club that it now takes four us to do
what she used to do.

When Michele made the difficult decision to resign from the Committee in 2012 and take a hiatus from the
club we as a Committee wanted a way to thank and honour Michele for the all the hard work she did for us.
Everything from almost running Barastoc singlehandedly to being Treasurer, President and Secretary in her
many roles.
Like the Jane Griffin Award, the Dressage award will be decided by the dressage instructor at each rally by
nominating a member who they believe is worthy of the award, as person who listens and improves
throughout the lesson. This year will be the inagual award.
