Radar Target Detection and Tracking Techniques

Detection processing uses short time correlation and signal amplitude to detect targets while removing false alarms and clutter. Tracking processing uses Doppler processing to form tracks and remove false tracks. Measurements include a target's range, bearing, and elevation. Measurements can be merged from two targets or resolved from one target. Tracks have predicted positions within validation regions that are updated using associated measurements closest to the prediction. The tracking process forms tracks from targets as well as clutter, countermeasures, and false alarms, so tracks can be larger or smaller than actual targets.

measurements

-estimate position : calculated position from measurements.
-a measurement(dots,a plot ):a dwelt target have range,bearing ,elevation..
-merged measurement : a measurement of two target.
-resolved measurement: : a measurement of a target.
-tracks have predicted position and estimate position, angle.
-validation region (gates): for predicted measurement. Measurement closest to predicted position is used to update track
-a measurement belongs to 2 target will be defined as merged measurement of one target and false measurement to the other target.

-so tracks could be larger (extra)or smaller (missed) than targets(real objects).
